X-Men: Dark Phoenix

The 10 Best Movies of June 2019 are all about blockbusters, sequels, and awesomeness! If you look at the movie mix closely, you will notice that half of the titles are actual reboots and sequels to what came before it. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, you know. It only means that audiences everywhere cannot get enough of blockbuster films even from before. They will never grow old, so to speak. So, with reboots and originals this month, cinema buffs are in for an exciting movie experience!

This month, get ready for “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” “Men in Black International,” “Feelennial,” “Anna,” “Rocketman,” “Toy Story 4,” “Child’s Play,” “Kontradiksyon,” and “Yesterday.”

Movie Mix June 2019: A Great Month for Movies

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (June 5) If you haven’t gotten over Game of Thrones, find comfort in knowing that Sansa Stark is the powerful Jean-Grey-turned-Dark-Phoenix in the seventh and final installment to the X-Men series. You will surely be at the edge of your seats as you witness the Phoenix get brainwashed causing her to turn on her fellow mutants and use her powers for evil. With all the twists and turns, this film does not mess around. The All-Star cast includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jessica Chastain, Scott Shepherd, Ato Essandoh, Haslton Sage, and Lamar Johnson.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 (June 5) This computer-animated comedy brings back the ever-lovable Max. When his owner, Katie, gets married and gives birth to her child Liam, Max becomes overprotective. In a family trip, Max and a farm dog named Rooster help Liam overcome his fears. Among the talented cast are Patton Oswalt as Max, Eric Stonestreet as Duke, Kevin Hart as Snowball, Jenny Slate as Gidget, Tiffany Haddish as Daisy, Lake Bell as Chloe, and many more.

Men in Black: International (June 12) Whenever you say “MIB,” you cannot help but think of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, right? Well even if we don’t see them in this revamp, it is great to know that MIB gets freshened up. Actors Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth team up in this reboot and they continue on doing what they do, having to deal with aliens on earth. Things take a turn though with a mole in their own turf. The movie also stars A-Listers Liam Neeson and Tessa Thompson.

Feelennial (June 19) Ai-Ai delas Alas and Bayani Agbayani star the movie, “Feelennial” which stands for “Feeling Millenial.” With Ms. Pops Fernandez as its executive producer, the rom-com will surely be entertaining. It will show the reality of the times that you can never be too old to fall in love. “Feelenial” is the first movie produced by DSL Events & Production House, Inc. and Cignal Entertainment.

Anna (June 19) This French crime action thriller stars Sasha Luss, Luke Evans, Cillian Murphy, and Helen Mirren. It brings the story of the strikingly beautiful Anna Poliatova when her indelible strength and skill is unleashed as a government assassin.

Rocketman (June 19) This biographical musical film is based on the life of the world-renowned musician, Elton John played by Taron Egerton. The film sets itself during John’s early days as a musical prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music to his musical partnership with Bernie Taupin. The film’s title was inspired by John’s 1972 hit song, “Rocket Man.” Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard, and others star alongside Taron.

Toy Story 4 (June 20) The toys are definitely back in town in its fourth film. The film stars Keanu Reeves (Duke Caboom), Christina Hendricks (Gabby Gabyy), Tom Hanks (Woody), Jordan Peele (Bunny), Annie Pots (Bo Peep), and a lot more. This time around, Woody gets separated from his new owner but is never alone. He has a new friend named Forky, a craft project that came to life. As the fun adventure unfolds, the question is, will Woody and the toys want to return home?

Child’s Play (June 20) Chucky comes back to life in the 21st Century through the world of technology. Sounds creepy? It sure is! Since its 1988 release, Child’s Play will still be one of the scariest films out there. This time around, what is scary becomes more realistic. The voice of Chucky is played by none other than Star Wars superstar Mark Hamill.

KontrAdiksyon (June 26) This Filipino socio-political action thriller is so complex and dramatic as it gives attention to the controversial war on illegal drugs. It shows the adverse effects of these drugs on the person that leads to a life of crime. The film stars Jake Cuenca, Kris Bernal, Katrina Halili, and more. It is written and directed by Multi-Palanca Award-winning writer, Njel de Mesa.

Yesterday (June 26) Can you ever imagine a world without The Beatles? If you can’t then the film, “Yesterday,” will make everyone understand. This British comedy is directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis. It stars Himesh Patel as Jack Malik, a musician who gets into an accident and finds himself in a world where he is the only one who knows who The Beatles are. As Jack starts performing The Beatles songs, he becomes famous almost overnight and the rest is history. The film also stars Lily James.
