2017 Bar Exam Results

The Supreme court released the 2017 Bar Exam results on Thursday, April 26, at 1:15 in the afternoon. The results show future lawyers and one of them hailing from Saint Louis University in Baguio City, Nadia Christine Mandiguarin. Reports say 25.55 percent or a total of 1,724 passed the bar exams.

In 2016, Cebu-based university topped the exam. San Carlos University’s Karen Mae L. Calam garnered 89.05 percent in her exam. Other universities in the Top 10 List includes Silliman University, Andres Bonifacio College, University of San Agustin, Ateneo de Davao, Northwestern University, and the University of Batangas.

BAR Exam 2017 Results

This year, the BAR Exam took place at the University of Santo Tomas. The exam spanned for four Sundays, all in the month of November 2017. A total of 6,750 students took the exam but only 1,724 passed. That’s 25.55 percent of the total examinees. As recorded, the 2016 BAR Exam scored one of the highest passing rates in history. In 1954, a record-high of 75.17 percent passing rate went down in history. However, 1999 scored the lowest with 16.59 percent passing rate.

Mark John Simondo from University of St. La Salle in Bacolod, Negros Occidental topped the 2017 Bar examination. He scored 91.05 percent of the total score. Meanwhile, University of San Carlos settles for the second place this year. Short by a few decimal places, Christianne Mae Balili placed 2nd with an average of 90.8 percent. The last time an examiner scored an above 90 percent score was in 2002. Arlene Maneja from the University of Santo Tomas scored 92.90 percent of the total score.

A university in Baguio City placed in this year’s list. Nadia Christine Mandiguarin of Saint Louis University landed the 15th place. She tied with Stephanie Claros from the University of San Jose-Recoletos and Rhea Doll Gonzalo from Xavier University. They all got 87.55 percent of the total scores. The other schools in the list are Ateneo de Davao University, University of San Carlos, San Beda College – Manila, University of Santo Tomas, St. Mary’s University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Cebu, University of the Philippines, and Jose Rizal University.

The 2017 Bar exam covers eight subjects that include Political Law, Labor Law, Civil Law, Taxation, Mercantile Law, Criminal Law, Remedial Law, and Legal and Judicial Ethics.
