Eight years ago today South Korean girl group 2ne1 rocked the stage of SBS Inkigayo with their powerful and charismatic performance of their debut song “Fire.” 2ne1 is formed under YG Entertainment which is home to worldwide acts such as BIGBANG and Psy. It is the first-ever girl group formed by the agency.
2ne1 8th Anniversary
Dara Minzy Bom and CL are not your average K-pop girl group. They, after all, deviated from the cutesy and cheeky performances along with their fashion. People were totally astounded with 2ne1’s unique representation of women: sexy, tough, empowered, and unbreakable. This world-renowned K-pop group surely broke the rules of South Korean music industry to step up their game. Just like what their song “Fire” emphasizes: “We’re breaking all the rule you set yourself, go on and let it free.”
2ne1 members has so much talent and interesting personality in them. Their songs on the following years mostly talk about women who don’t need a man. They brought empowering songs and great performances. CL Bom Dara and Minzy were never afraid to show their true feelings and personality through their reality TV shows, talk shows, concerts, and more.
2ne1 After Disbandment
Unfortunately Blackjacks- 2ne1’s official fandom name- already received their last gift from the group. That is 2ne1’s farewell song- “Goodbye” which was released after their disbandment on November 2016.
Nowadays each of 2ne1 member is focused on their own activities. Minzy is now a solo artist under Music Works. She recently released her new album “Minzy Work 01 Uno.” Dara on the other hand recently starred in a Korean movie “One Step.” She is currently hosting JTBC variety show Sugar Man with Yoo Jae Suk; Yoo Hee Yeol and Kim Eana. CL is now a solo artist under the same agency. She completed her U.S debut with the song “Lifted” on the previous year. Lastly Bom didn’t renew her contract under YG Entertainment but has not entered other agencies either.
2ne1 and Blackjacks have truly come a long way. From dominating charts to sold-out concerts and award-winning songs; CL Bom Dara and Minzy proved us all that are one of the best K-pop girl groups out there. That sure is an amazing eight years.
