42nd Bamboo Organ Festival In The Philippines: All You Need To Know

The 42nd edition of the International Bamboo Organ Festival will kick off on Feb. 16 and will run until Feb. 22. Among classical music enthusiasts here and abroad, the festival continues to be one of the most-awaited events every year. This year, a new pipe organ will be unveiled at the San Ezekiel Moreno Oratory. Together with the 19th century bamboo organ, this will delight the audience with music from different periods in time.

St. Joseph Church in Las Pinas City will be the main venue of the festival, while the San Ezekiel Moreno Oratory also in Las Pinas will host the closing concert.

International Artists At The Bamboo Organ Festival

Like the previous editions of the festival, this year brings several classical music artists from all over the world to perform at the festival. On Feb. 16, 17 and 19, local choirs the Villancico Vocal Ensemble and the Las Pinas Boys Choir will perform “Parvulus Filius.” Instrumental intermissions will be performed by the Ensemble Music Sophia, with Luc Ponet (Belgium) on the Bamboo Organ; Lambert Colson (France) on the cornetto (pipe organ), Raphael Leone of Austria on the piccolo and flute and Carsten Linck (Germany) on the guitar.

On Feb. 18, the much-awaited “Concert under the Trees” will feature the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, soprano Stef Quintin, flutist Leone and guitarist Linck. Festival Mass on Feb. 19 will feature music from the Little Organ Mass of Fr. J. Haydn by the Las Pinas Boys Choir and Johann Trummer (Austria) on the Bamboo Organ.

Luc Ponet will have his Bamboo Organ recital on Feb. 20, with Colson and Leone. The festival’s closing concert on Feb. 22 will showcase the new pipe organ at SEMO together with the Ateneo de Manila College Glee Club.

Tickets, Tickets Prices For The Bamboo Organ Festival

Tickets are priced at PhP 600, PhP 400 and PhP 200, depending on the seating section. Tickets are mainly for Feb. 16-17, 19 and 22 concerts, while the rest of the shows are free of charge. Several online ticket sites sell tickets to the festival: Ticket World, SM Tickets and TicketNet. You may also buy from the Bamboo Organ Foundation.
