5 Creepy Internet Mysteries That Would Leave You Offline

The internet is a magical and mysterious realm. Even if you spend an entire week browsing through its rabbit holes, the internet’s entirety is still left unexplored. Most of what we see online is shared through social media and ultimately liked and double-tapped. But I know for a fact that under the good and quirky stuff that we see online, the internet’s hidden pages are full of the dark and twisted. After two days of digging and research, here are 5 creepiest mysteries and stories found within the deep, black web.

The Plague Doctor

Publicly titled 11B X 1371, this one appeared in late 2015. Boy are you in for a scare for this one. The video’s score is composed of static sounds and creepy jump cuts that send a million chills down your spine. The video shows a person in a plague doctor’s mask and a black hooded robe. The entire footage is enough to make you crap your pants, but the purpose and meaning behind the video is still unknown. The video also contains messages about the White House’s coordinates, chess moves and random (and possibly terrorist) messages. The owner of the YouTube channel which the video was posted says that he doesn’t have a connection with the makers of the footage.

The Deep Web

What you see on your Google Chrome browser is not what the internet has to offer. Behind those webpages and Google search algorithms, there is what we call the Deep Web. It refers to the majority of the internet that’s not accessible through your normal browser. I’ve managed to read some stories about it on Reddit, but the owner of the subreddit forbid me to link his thread here. Anyway, it is believed that the Deep Web is full of child pornography, sex trafficking, murder live streams, drug trade and basically all the gore. Sure it sounds interesting to explore, but once you click the wrong link, you’re in for an experience that can scar you for life.

Mariana’s Web

Similar to the Deep Web and one of the internet’s greatest legends, it is rumoured to be deeper than the Deep Web. A play on Mariana’s Trench, this part of the internet is almost inaccessible to everyone. Its existence has been bashed with skepticism for a long time. It is also believed to contain a number of the world’s greatest secrets such as aliens, military discoveries and even the Lost City of Atlantis. To get in, one must be able to solve and use the Polymeric Falcighol Derivation, an equation that relies on quantum computers. A lot of people believe that the Mariana’s is home to a very powerful female artificial intelligence.

John Titor

This person claims to be a military time traveller from the year 2036. He first appeared in forums and chat rooms during 2000 and 2001. Titor made predictions about events of the future, some very vague and some wildly specific. His predictions started from the year 2004, which included the division of the United States into 5 sections resulting from a modern civil war, World War III and the destruction of the world powers. None of these predictions ever happened, but looking at today’s news, one can help but wonder if Titor was right after all.

Webdriver Torso

This YouTube Channel first came out in September 2013 under the name Webdriver Torso. Just by reading the word torso gives people the creeps, right? The channel uploaded videos every minute of every day with each video lasting up to 11 seconds. What’s weird about this is that the video only contains weird shapes and silhouettes of people and random objects. Conspiracy theorists claimed that this was a way for the world powers to contact spies. However, in 2014, Google and YouTube finally broke their silence by saying that the Channel was a quality test account. But despite this, many still believe that there is something sinister lurking behind these videos.
