With all the complicated exercise regimen available nowadays, people may very well be discouraged by the cost and the time that they have to put in to live healthier lives.the time that they have to put in to live healthier lives. More and more studies are coming out about the simplest exercise regimen and the benefits that one can get from it. Walking, unlike other exercise routines, only requires a good pair of shoes and comfortable clothes.

Studies show that walking can have a significant impact on one’s physical well-being, while more recent studies also connect better emotional well-being to walking. An article in Real Simple runs down the benefits of walking as a regular form of exercise.

It Gives Your Heart A Good Workout

Walking, especially walking briskly, can get your heart pumping. This cardio workout promotes better circulation. If you are not up to brisk walking because of weight issues for example, the article recommends walking longer to cover a longer distance. A study documents that daily walkers and runners saw their blood pressure lowered by 4.2% and their risk of heart disease lowered by 4.5%.

It Regulates How Much Weight You Gain

As one ages, metabolism changes dramatically. When you are younger, you can get away with binge-eating and not gain weight, but as you grow older, it is simply not possible. If you adapt walking a daily exercise of at least 10 to 15 minutes, it can help you regulate your weight gain. According to another study that compared walkers with those who rode vehicles to work, those who walked gained two pounds less than those who did not.

It Gives You An Energy Boost

Throughout the day, our energy levels go up and down. Whenever you feel a bit drained, put on your walking shoes and go out for a walk. Or if the weather isn’t cooperating, try a few minutes on the treadmill. When you go out, you disconnect oneself from distractions and focus on your steps and breathing. When you come back, you will feel recharged.

It Changes Your Mood For The Better

When you are feeling overwhelmed with work or with domestic issues, take a break and take a walk. Once again, you will be devoid of distractions. According to another study, subjects who were sent out for a 10-minute walk were asked to assess a current personal problem. All of them registered a more positive outlook compared to before taking a walk.

It Strengthens Communication Lines Between Family Members

Walks are also a way of releasing pent up emotions or energies, be it between you and your spouse or you and your children. Walking together opens communication lines because it’s just the two of you, devoid of the usual distractions such as mobile phones, tablets, TV or radio. In a way, you are “forced” to relate with each other. Walking can also improve the relationship between parents and children, because it also takes us away from things that distract us from talking and more importantly, listening to each other.
