On April 30, the Philippines crowned its next bevy of beauties to represent the country in international beauty pageants. Taking the lead is Miss Universe Philippines 2017, Rachel Peters from Camarines Sur.

Peters was among the frontrunners during coronation night, together with Katarina Rodriguez and Maria Angelica de Leon. Here are 5 things about the new crown holder that you need to know.

1. Peters aced the Question and Answer portion during coronation night, which most commentators say was her winning moment. According to an Inquirer report, she gave an “insightful” answer to the question about what message she will give to the leaders of ASEAN. Her response was: “I believe that one of our biggest problems that our country faces today is divisiveness—in politics, in religion, and also in culture. And I believe that is something that is the same across the world. That is something that I want to address. I believe if people could learn to tolerate each other’s differences and respect each other’s opinions then we will be a stronger nation and world.”

2. Although she hails from Camarines Sur, this 25 year old lass is half-Filipino, half-British.

3. Peters is currently in a relationship with the young governor of Camarines Sur, Miguel Luis Villafuerte. The governor never failed to show his support for his girlfriend even before pageant night, according to an ABS-CBN report.

4. She is an entrepreneur with a background in Business, Tourism and Events from La Trobe University in Australia. Prior to that, she finished International Studies at the British School in Thailand.

5. Peters also received three other special awards at the pageant. These include The Face of Binibini (or Most Photogenic), Jag Denim Queen and Best in Swimsuit. This is also her second time to join the pageant, her last one was in 2014.

Maria Angelica de Leon, daughter of Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong, takes over as the country’s representative to Miss International. Katarina Rodriguez, another crowd favorite, was named Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2017.
