The rainy season also brings rainy day specials, where most hotels offer huge discounts on their room rates. It is the lean season after all. This is the best time to come to Baguio and stay a few nights and not spend as much. Some hotels offer as much as 30 percent off their published room rates, so you will definitely save some money.

Drink, and Be Warm

If you do venture out of your hotel room, you have loads of choices in the city when it comes to having a drink. The perfect drink in this cool weather is coffee, and nothing beats Baguio’s brewed coffee. Forget about your favorite 3-in-1 and splurge a little on local brews, such as Ruins Coffee and Hot Chocolate at Cafe By The Ruins on Chuntug Street, or herbal teas at Oh My Gulay, La Azotea Building, Session Road or old-fashioned chocolate at Tsokolate de Batirol in Camp John Hay.

Warm Your Stomach With Comfort Food

When it’s raining, one of the best things to eat are dishes that warm your tummy. And there are plenty of these in the city, if you know where to go. Along Session Road, try the beef or chicken mami at Luisa’s Cafe or at Rose Cafe. Hodori Restaurant located along Mabini Street, also serves Japanese Ramen and Korean Ramyun as well as other types Korean stew dishes. Japanese ramen is slowly becoming a food fad in the city, with several ramen places opening up such as Yamashita along Leonard Wood Road, and Ramen Shoriken in Minesview.

Stay In and Enjoy the “Cuddle” Weather

When it pours, you can also just stays indoors. It is no wonder why Baguio is also called the Honeymoon Capital, because honeymooners prefer the cold weather. Since tourists do not flock to the city during this time, visitors can enjoy less crowded tourist areas. 

Important Travel Tips

Airconditioned buses are still the best way to travel to Baguio. Several bus companies ply the Manila-Baguio route: Victory Liner, Dagupan Bus, and Genesis Transport. Regular aircon buses will bring you to Baguio in 6 to 6 and a half hours. Those who prefer to get there faster can take the De Luxe non-stop buses of Victory or Genesis which take 4 to 5 hours because they pass through the major expressways going to Baguio.

Do not let the rains ruin your thirst for adventure. If you open your mind to new things to see and do, you may just see a different side of Baguio, and one that you will most likely enjoy.
