Froilan Canlas is Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s semi finalist who grabbed his eighth win on December 7. Two more wins and he becomes a hall of famer for the show.

Froilan Canlas On Tawag Ng Tanghalan Sa Showtime

Froilan first joined the show on November 29. He was introduced as a music and volleyball teacher from Bulacan. His first piece was “And I Love You So” by Don McLean. Rey Valera noticed the tenderness of his performance and said that his voice was a mix of Josh Groban and Justin Timberlake.

He then became Tuesday daily winner and took the title of defending champion from Rommel Collao. His winning piece was “Lost stars” by Adam Levine. It was uphill for Froilan since then.

He is on his eighth win and on is on it to win two more to become a hall of famer, beating semi-finalist and ex-defending champion Sam Mangubat who had seven wins on the show.

So what else do we know about Froilan Canlas?

1.OPM@Pagcor Nationwide Search for the Total OPM Performer Season 2 Champion

In 2012, Froilan Canlas joined and won as the gran prize winner of the OPM@Pagcor Nationwide search for the Total  OPM Performer Season 2. His winning piece was “Dahil Sayo.” Froilan went through rigorous auditions and workshios conducted by top performers.

2. Froilan used to be in a boy band.

Now there is not much we know about this but its already interesting to know that he was in a boy band before. According to Froilan, he joined different bands since he was 18.

 

3. Froilan Canlas is an Asian Music Graduate of the University of the Philippines, College of Music

Froilan did have professional training in music which would explain why he has been winning in competitions. In the interview with The Philippine Star, Froilan advised other aspiring singers to “Just keep dreaming. Never stop. Always put God in your heart when you sing.”

4. Froilan’s motto in life.

When Froilan was interviewed for the OPM@Pagcor competition in 2012, The Philippine Star asked about his motto in life and he said, “Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.” Years later it seems he still sticks to the same motto when he posted this on Facebook just hours ago.

5.  Froilan plays different musical instruments

Thanks to littlegirlwithcurls on Instagram, we now know Froilan can’t just sing. He can play the Chinese violin. In the same interview with Philippine Star he said, “I know how to play different Philippine and Asian indigenous instruments like the kulintang, gangsa, rondalla, koto of Japan, erhu of China and gamelan of Indonesia.”
