Christmas is only a few days away, and even before the actual holiday, many of us have probably attended quite a few Christmas parties where food and drink will likely be abundant. During the holidays, people dread its worst effect that usually shows up in one’s waistline. Here are five ways to keep those pounds away and keep fit during this season of overindulgence.
Move, Move, Move!
Prolonged sitting have been proven to be hazardous to one’s health. And during this season of merriment, much of it is usually spent sitting down and enjoying delicious and rich food and drinks. According to US News Health, exercise experts estimate that about five to ten minutes getting up on your feet will go a long way in keeping away heart disease. Any light activity is recommended, such as getting up to get water or walking around the house.
Drink Lots of Water
Increasing one’s water intake helps control the amount of food one eats. Experts recommend drinking a glass of water before a meal, because it may just be thirst that one is feeling rather than hunger. For example, before considering having a second go at the buffet, drink water and then figure out if you still need to eat or not. Before taking “calorie-rich” meals, such as lechon, crispy pata, and the like, experts also recommend taking two tall glasses of water.
Exercise Early in the Day
It is still highly recommended that one should stick with his or her workout schedule. Parties and get-togethers should never be an excuse to skip a workout. If one lacks time because of holiday schedules, try to fit in 10 to 15 minutes early in the day to do a run or brisk walk. Scheduling workouts late in the day will open it to possible disruptions due to social activities.
Allow Yourself to Indulge, But Only For A Night
In this season of overindulgence, people tend to do just that – overindulge. Indulging in rich and delicious food and drink can still be done, but one should just do it for a night, and not on every party night during the holidays.
Plan Family Wellness Activities
Just because one is on holiday with the rest of the family, it does not mean that workouts and healthy activities will take a backseat. One efficient way to keep fit and squeeze in a workout while on holiday is to organize wellness activities for the whole family that everyone will enjoy doing.
