The 89th Academy Awards are just around the corner and sprinting ahead of the pack is the much-lauded “La La Land” with 14 nominations. The astonishing number ties the picture with the records set by classic films “Titanic and “All About Eve.” While “La La Land” is the favorite to pick up several awards, including Best Picture, this season includes other strong contenders for the different categories. The Oscars ceremony airs on Monday, Feb. 27 at 9:30 AM Philippine Time. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host this year’s Oscars for the first time. Expect some joking references to his fake feud with Matt Damon, whose film “Manchester by the Sea” has been nominated in the Best Picture category (Damon is credited as a producer). Also expect some amazing performances by the nominees for Best Original Song category. Auli’i Cravalho (the voice of Moana), Justin Timberlake (who sang for “Trolls”), Sting (with a song from “Jim: The James Foley Story”) and John Legend (representing the two nominated songs from “La La Land”) are all set to perform. First Ever IMDb.com Oscars Live-stream For the first time ever, the world’s most popular website for movie content will be holding a live-stream companion show to the Oscars. The “IMDb Live Viewing Party, Presented by OREO Chocolate Candy Bar” will be hosted by Dave Karger and Rachel Smith. The five-hour-long live-stream can be watched via IMDb.com, Twitch, and Twitter and promises expert commentary, real-time winner announcements and trivia quizzes. The show starts 30 minutes before the Oscars ceremony on Feb. 27 at 9:00 AM Philippine time.
