You’re in for a ride with Jackie Chan in “The Foreigner,” Taylor Kitsch in “Only the Brave,” Ben Stiller in “Brad’s Status,” Ai-Ai delas Alas in “Bes and the Beshies,” Gerard Butler in “Geostorm,” and Jessica Rothe in “Happy Death Day.” Movie Mix October 20: Everyday Heroes and Everyday Life Jackie Chan stars in “The Foreigner” – an action thriller based on the novel, “The Chinaman” by Stephen Leather. Jackie plays the role of a humble businessman named “Quan” seeking justice for his daughter’s death that was caused by an act of terrorism. His search for answers leads him into a complicated encounter with a British government official (Pierce Brosnan), whose own past may hold clues to the killers of Quan’s daughter. Included in the star-studded cast are Michael McElhatton, Liu Tao, Charlie Murphy, Orla Brady and Katie Leung. “Only the Brave” is a film based on the GQ Article, “No Exit” by Sean Flynn. The article gives an account on the true story behind the Granite Mountain Hotshots- an elite crew of firefighters who successfully put out the Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013. Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Taylor Kitsch, James Badge Dale, Jennifer Connelly, Alex Russell, and Ben Hardy star in this tribute biographical action film. Ben Stiller as Brad Sloan looks back on his life by helping his son begin his own. He realizes that life is more than wealth and status. “Brad’s Status” begins when Brad embarks on a journey to tour colleges on the East Coast with his son, Troy Sloan (Austin Abrams), Brad finds himself inferior about his life after meeting with his old friend who was doing way better than Brad. The director and writer of the comedy-drama is Mike White who interestingly appears in the movie as Nick Pascale. Jenna Fischer, Michael Sheen, Jemaine Clement, Luke Wilson, Shazi Raja, and Luisa Lee also star in the movie. Ai-Ai delas Alas is a single mom in “Bes and the Beshies.” Ai-Ai is “Charla” in the movie who is a single mom doing everything she can to support her family even if it means taking up on odd jobs. Charla’s other three friends in the movie are played by Zsa Zsa Padilla, Carmi Martin, and Beauty Gonzales who also face their own challenges. The film highlights various struggles in relationships and most especially, the life of single parents which is something that Ai-Ai is abreast with. Ricky Lee wrote the film while Joel Lamangan is its director. “Geostorm” looks to the future with the possibility of controlling the climate in a global scale. The science-fiction disaster film is set in the year 2019 where 18 nations unite and commission a system of satellites called “Dutch Boy” that has a primary function of controlling the climate on a global scale. With something this ideal, the real threat should be exposed before the worldwide geostorm destroys any life known to man. The movie stars Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, Daniel Wu, Eugenio Derbez, and others. Waking up over and over again only to relive a murder is what “Happy Death Day” is about. The slasher film stars Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard. It is about a college student who gets murdered on her birthday and finds herself in a loop until she finds who murdered her. The movie is directed by Christopher Landon and written by Scott Lobdell.
