The Christmas season in the city of Baguio will officially start on Dec. 1, with the grand inauguration program of the Christmas in Baguio 2017. According to the Baguio Midland Courier, the program will kick off the holiday festivities lined up for the season for both residents and visitors to enjoy.

Session Road will be closed for the whole day, as several fun activities are in store for everyone.

Christmas In Baguio 2017: Grand Christmas Tree Lighting And SLU Lantern Parade

The two main events on Dec. 1 are the lighting of the Grand Christmas Tree in Rose Garden, Burnham Park at 5:30 p.m. and the traditional Saint Louis University (SLU) Lantern Parade at 6:15 p.m.

Before the unveiling and lighting of the Christmas Tree, participating schools and university choirs will sing perform at the Rose Garden at 3:30 p.m., while the SLU Marching Band and Choir and the Center for Culture and Arts will sing Christmas Carols at Upper Session Road at 5:00 p.m.

After the Lantern Parade, which will end at the Athletic Bowl, Upper Session Road will become the venue for the Christmas in Baguio 2017 Band concert. The Philippine Military Academy band and other local bands are slated to entertain that night, starting at 7:15 p.m.

Unveiling Of The Tinatik Art Installation And Silahis Ng Pasko 2017 Activities

Also on Dec. 1 at 3 p.m., a giant art installation at Upper Session Road rotunda will be unveiled as well. Tinatik artist Maela Liwanag Jose, in a press statement, described the installation as one that “will tell the story of creation starting from the sun, rain, mountains, plants, animals, and man” and “will resemble a Christmas tree.”

The city government, through the City Social Welfare Office, continues its yearly Silahis ng Pasko activities for special beneficiary groups such as parents and children and persons with disabilities, which also launches on Dec. 1.

Baguio City will also have its own lights and sound show at Malcolm Square, located at Lower Session Road, which will be inaugurated on Nov. 29. Visitors and residents can catch the show every 20 minutes as soon as the sun sets.
