Mary Glor Misal was the first challenger to take the stage. Mary is a fourth year Secondary Education college who majors in MAPEH. At the age of twenty, she knows for sure that she wants to be a teacher. Mary is the eldest of three and is raised by her stay-at-home mom who does flower arranging part time and her OFW father who was been working in Kuwait for six years. Mary sang “Run To You” by Whitney Houston. “Music to my ears,” says hurado Karylle.

Challenger from Leyte, Ruben Tejano was next on stage. Ruben sang Basil Valdez’s song, “Muling Buksan ang Puso” giving a very emotional and powerful rendition of the song. Ruben is a guard at Leyte’s provincial jail for 25 years now. Because he wants to give more for his wife and three kids, he also sells ‘walis tambo’ at the city’s city hall and also raises pigs and ducks to add more to his income. Hurado Louie Ocampo noticed how prepared he was for the competition. He says Ruben had the voice quality, proper intonation and dynamics so in total he was very pleased with Ruben’s performance.

Twenty-eight-year old Romeo Ogong from Sarangani Province was the last challenger for the day. Romeo is a land developer, event organizer, host and singer. He tried to make it into politics as a board member of Sarangani Second District but didn’t make it. Instead, he found the love of his life and is soon to be married. Romeo sang “Somewhere Down the Road” by Barry Manilow. Romeo was very comfortable on stage but had the wrong song says hurado Kyla. Hurado Nyoy said Romeo’s performance was very rich in character and appreciated how confident he was on stage having eye contact with the judges. Song choice wasn’t a problem for Nyoy but pronunciation was.
