ABS-CBN, Lord of the Rings

ABS-CBN served as home to most of the foreign shows franchised from the US. It is even home to the best Asian Novelas in the history. But recently, the network pushed farther than they do. On one of their social media accounts, they made a poll on who should play the roles in the J.R.R. Tolkien hit, “Lord of the Rings.”

Netizens speculated that this is a research on the network’s fans. They are trying to know who is the best artist to play the lead roles in the film. “Lord of the Rings” is a story about supernatural beings in a different dimension. It consists of creatures such as angels, dragons, and such.

ABS-CBN Lord of The Rings re-make: “Who among these artists?”

Although ABS-CBN’s polls are informal, people still voted on their “chosen one” for the specific roles. The poll alone for the character Arwen Undomiel garnered 27 thousand responses as of press writing. It has five thousand shares. Not to mention the 17 thousand comments.

Other characters up for grabs are as follows: Lady Galadriel, Legolas Greenleaf, and Frodo Baggins. However, ABS-CBN is yet to confirm whether a remake is in the works for the trilogy.

The fans are not liking it

Even if the trilogy ended years ago, it still maintained the esteemed fans. After seeing the network’s poll, some fans took comments their dismay to the idea. One asked ABS-CBN not to “ruin” the movie. Others believed that the network is incapable of re-creating the iconic epic movie.

For the roles of Galadriel and Arwen, the network asked users to choose from Arci Munoz, Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis-Smith, Pia Wurtzbach, Liza Soberano, Kathryn Bernardo and Nadine Lustre.

For the roles of Legolas and Frodo, the network asked the users to choose from Daniel Padilla, James Reid, Enrique Gil, Nash Aguas, Jerome Ponce, McCoy de Leon and Joshua Garcia.

In an article by Interaksyon, the plan is “too ambitious.” Although ABS-CBN is a boss itself, the network will have troubles on licensing and budgeting. Amazon Studios claim that it costs about 250 million dollars for the rights on J.R.R. Tolkien film itself. Other than that, the network needs 1 million dollars for a series.
