Acer Philippines has done it again! Jennylyn Mercado and JM De Guzman star in Acer Philippines 2017 Christmas Ad that has gone viral since its posting on Dec 8. The ad with the theme “Malayang Pasko” has had millions of views and has been shared around 80k times.
Acer Philippines is known for using short films as commercials for their products. In September, they released a laptop commercial starring Empoy Marquez and Alessandra de Rossi of the hit film, “Kita Kita.” The ad had the theme “Kasya Pa,” which to date, has around 11M views. GMA actress Jennylyn Mercado and ABS-CBN Star Magic talent JM De Guzman were revealed to be ambassadors of Acer Philippines in November. This microfilm was a comeback project for JM De Guzman since he went on hiatus since 2015. He went through rehabilitation from drug abuse in 2014 as reported by Star Cinema. Recently, the actor posted a photo of an award he got in December 2016 for being 1 year sober. He captioned the photo saying, “2 years this December 2017.”
JM De Guzman was supposed to be Jennylyn’s co-star and leading man for a film called, “Walang Forever” in 2015. But since he was in rehab, Jericho Rosales took the role instead. Now that he is s0ber and back to work, he makes up for it working alongside Jennylyn Mercado for the electronic brand’s viral commercial.
Acer Philippines 2017 Christmas Ad is about celebrating Christmas free of emotional baggage. This one, in particular, is about being free from a relationship that has been haunting someone for years. It’s not your typical cliche happy ending in the sense that two ex-lovers didn’t end up together. Some commented on how it touched them emotionally. It wasn’t a feel-good ad and was one about hurt but they still liked the idea of it.
