The original series stars Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye Kyo which aired on the Kapuso Network in 2016. Reports say that Alden Richards could be the actor to play Yoo Shi Jin in the upcoming adaptation. Descendants of the Sun is a South Korean TV series which became a major hit not only in Korea but in the Philippines as well. It won several awards including the Grand Prize in television at the 52nd Beaksang Arts Awards. The series was also named the Most Popular Show of the year by Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation. It is also where Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye Kyo found love on and off screen. A report by PEP confirms that GMA 7 has indeed bought the rights to do an adaptation of Descendants of the Sun in the Philippines this 2018. GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth Rasonable says, “Yes, we bought it and like My Love From The Star, we’re going to do an adaptation. “My Love From The Star” aired in May 2017 and stars Gil Cuerva and Jennylyn Mercado. However, when asked if rumors that Alden Richards will be playing Song Joong-Ki’s character in the adaption, she says Alden can definitely pull it off but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. She added that she’d be happy if it were Alden but right now, there are no final castings yet. The question is, Could Maine Mendoza also be in on it?
