Maine Mendoza, Alden Richards

It’s been almost three years since Maine Mendoza laid eyes on Alden Richards in “Eat Bulaga!” The great ascend of AlDub to fame and virality landed them a few projects outside the noontime show. All in all, they’ve been in four movies and TV drama together. Take a look at the films the love team has been in since they first saw each other in 2015.

Everyone knows their story well. Maine Mendoza, popularly known as Yaya Dub, blushed the moment she saw Alden Richards in the “Eat Bulaga!” studio. From then, the rest was history. Fans around the world went crazy for their unconventional love story where they brought the kilig without even being in the same room.

AlDub Movies through the years

1. My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore (2015)

“My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore” revolved around two couples, one young and one old. Maine Mendoza is Anna, the daughter of the rich Vito, Vic Sotto’s character. Their company plans to reserve a venue for a big event, but they cross paths with Alden Richards’ character, Dondi, and his aunt, Cora, an event planner. The young ones find themselves slowly falling in love but keeping it secret because the adults hate each other’s guts. In the end, they, of course, all lived happily ever after.

“My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore” is AlDub’s first major movie together. They might not have the major leads, but they’re almost up there. Their presence in the movie earned it ₱60.4 million in its opening day and ₱385 million nationwide. It was also an official entry in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival. It received the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award and took third in the Best Film category. Maine Mendoza, fortunately, won Best Supporting Actress.

2. Imagine You and Me (2016)

“Imagine You and Me” is about two young people who have extremely contrasting ideas of love. Gara, Maine Mendoza’s character is in OFW in Italy and has an idealistic vision of true love and destiny. There, she meets Alden Richard’s character, Andrew, a pessimistic and pragmatic medical student who doesn’t believe in fate. Together, they balance each other’s beliefs and find an unusual kind of love.

Directed by Mike Tuviera, “Imagine You and Me” is the first film that put ALDub front and center. It was a stark contrast to “My Bebe Love’s” light-hearted comedy. The film grossed ₱21.5 million in its first day. It was released three days before the loveteam’s anniversary which was on July 16, 2016.

3. Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers (2016)

Another comedic movie in AlDub’s books, “Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers” still continues to follow the life of Vic Sotto’s Enteng Kabisote without his usual companions. While touring Bohol, he finds himself in the middle of a war and Enteng is supposed to save the day again.

This film wasn’t doing well. It was submitted as an entry for the Metro Manila Film Festival but didn’t make it as a finalist. Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza didn’t star in this film, they did bring a bit of a kilig factor to it.

4. Love is… (2017)

“Love is…” is about Vivienne and Marco and rocky road to re-engagement. After Alden Richard’s character, Marco, proposes Maine Mendoza’s character, Vivienne, their relationship slowly takes a turn downhill and to the dark side. Vivienne wants to help pay for the wedding so she invests her father’s retirement fund to a business opportunity her cousin Edwin told her. Sadly, the money was used for her father’s recovery after he had a stroke. To make things worse, the investment was a scam. She slowly falls into a pit of depression and starts to neglect everything and everyone around her. When Marco finally convinces her to come out of her room and have dinner with them, his mother says she might be going crazy and Vivienne overhears this, returns the ring and leaves. She runs to the place Marco proposed and almost downed a lot of sleeping pills, hoping to end her life. Luckily, Marco came just in time and saved her. He not only saved her life but promised to love her forever. They got engaged at the same place where it all started.

“Love is…” is a TV film by the noontime show “Eat Bulaga!” It aired on October 21, 2017 without any commercial break. It’s official hashtag, ##ALDUBxEBLoveIs trended number one in the Philippines and number two worldwide. It got 1.38 million tweets even before it started. The film has a more serious tone compared to “Imagine You and Me” as it not only revolves around the power of love but also deals with the effects of clinical depression.
