3 Reasons Why Alicia Vikander is Perfect as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Reboot

Alicia Vikander is Lara Croft in the upcoming 2018 Tomb Raider movie. The first-look photos have already been revealed. The Swedish Oscar winner is one of Hollywood’s most famous breakout stars. She is an exquisite chameleon able to play various striking characters like her roles in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ex-Machina, Jason Bourne and The Danish Girl. The 27-year-old actress is perfect for the video-game heroine that Angelina Jolie played more than a decade ago. Here are some reasons why this is so.

1. Alicia Vikander’s Reflects Lara Croft’s Character and Origin

According to producer Graham King, the upcoming reboot brings its audience back to how Lara Croft came to be. It involves the many challenges, both physically and emotionally. It is what Lara went through which led to her becoming the Tomb Raider. In an email to Vanity Fair, Alicia said that people will be able to identify with Lara as a role model. She is primarily out to “carve out her place in the world.” Just like Lara, Alicia has done just that in as a breakout actor.

 2. Alicia Vikander is a Bad-Ass Beauty

The Verge reports that Alicia Vikander’s rendition of Lara Croft in the video game is “identical.” Seeing Alicia in costume with the tank top and soiled jeans makes her even more bad-ass. Her features are as ruggedly gorgeous as Lara Croft specially with her strength in character. With Alicia as the lead character, the reboot is acclaimed for how being cunning and instinctive the film feels. Thanks to the Swede’s grit and beauty.

3. Alicia Vikander is Not New to Action-Packed Strength Training

Although Alicia is elegant and seemingly fragile, she is a hardcore action star. Her role as a spy in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. as well as the character she played as the humanoid robot Ava in Ex Machina are proof that she kicks ass and trains hard. To train for the role as Lara Croft, Self reveals that Alicia was placed on a nutrition plan “to gain muscle and to boost her metabolism.”  Her workouts are mostly made up of weight lifting and movement training. Lygdbäck, Alicia’s trainer, uses the “Magnus Method” that combines proper nutrition, working out, and sports psychology. Those he trains go through the rigid and intense discipline of athletes.

The upcoming version of the hit franchise includes Lara Croft’s backstory. It shows the character’s motivation. After her father disappears, 21-year-old Lara refuses to take over her father’s empire. She then chooses to be a bike messenger while studying in a London college. She then gets interested in investigating how her father disappeared somewhere off the coast of Japan, the Tomb Raider is born. How vulnerable yet remarkably strong Lara is makes Alicia Vikander a perfect fit for the role. Check out the first-look pictures of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft here.
