Director Antoinette Jadaone has done it again with another box office success for the ever popular love team LizQuen in their movie “Alone Together.” The film, released a day before Valentine’s day garnered P61.9 million in just two days. The LizQuen film revolves around young love, dreams, ambitions, and reality. We watch as Christine (Liza Soberano), an art studies major and Raf (Enrique Gil) a Biology student, aspire to be the best version of themselves after college but then we fast forward and not everything is as it should be, just like in reality. But how is it different from other romantic dramas?
5 Reasons Why Alone Together is a Must-See
1. Relatable Plot
The story is about two young ambitious students who are ready to take on the real world in their different fields and in different ways. But when not everything goes as planned, things change. In time, the former couple meet again but they are in different relationships and this ignites a lost love between them. We see how change is constant in the film but also how some things remain the same.
The film portrays the youths’ idealism and we watch as it is shaken and tested pushing the characters to compromise, which is something everyone at some point has to do.
2.Charming Cast
The long shipped love team LizQuen said in an interview with The Gulf News that they were briefed by director Antoinette Jadaone and did their own research in relation to their characters.
Liza, for example, interviewed and talked to art major teachers as well as students and read on art to make the characters more authentic. Enrique, on the other hand, also interviewed doctors and also immersed in some hospitals to get his character right. The extra research helped a lot it making their characters come to life for the movie.
3. Lessons Learned
The film shows us the reality that not everything can go as planned. Although we are free to dream and there’s nothing wrong with being idealistic, we also have to learn to compromise and accept that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies.
The audiences are taught that life, although imperfect, can be just as good as that ideal life in your head and that things happen and situations change. Whether that’s for better or for worse, life goes on.
4. Love and heartbreak
Director Antoinette Jadaone maps out the love story between Christine and Raf perfectly in their ambitions and ideal future. Jadaone made sure we root for their relationship and their ideals. Later we watch it all fall away into heartbreak. But of course, the two meet again and attempt to reignite the former flame despite their baggage.
Everyone loves the complicated love story trope and no one does it better than “That Thing Called Tadhana” director Jadaone.
5.Reality Bites
Everyone has plans and goals that don’t quite go as planned. It happens. The film portrays that perfectly and we see reality being portrayed through the professions the characters are pursuing and through the ambitions and idealism they beam with in their youth.
Although watching movies is supposed to be a form of escape, it’s always nice to have a sense of reality in films to make them more relatable and have situations that aren’t so far off from real experiences.
