AMA 2017: Is Demi Lovato Hating On BTS?

International singer Demi Lovato has just become a victim of internet trolls. On Twitter, so-called ‘fans’ of the American Music Awards or AMA 2017 posted citations from a “live stream” of the event– particularly about Demi Lovato and her ‘comments’ on the Korean-based pop group, BTS.

Fans tweeting false Demi Lovato citations about BTS from AMA’s 2017

On Nov 19, the American Music Awards commenced, and it celebrated American artists– as well as international artists who have made a mark in the music industry. For the first time ever, the most famous hip-hop group in Korea, BTS, got invited to perform. They danced and sung their way through their newest hit, “DNA.” Evidently, even on foreign territory, BTS got quite a roar from the crowd. It was too loud not to ignore.

Another artist whose intro was as powerful as her vocal chords was Demi Lovato. She sat in the crowd and let a short clip of hateful comments flash before the screen before she stood up to perform. She sang her big hit “Sorry, Not Sorry” which got the whole crowd swaying to the beat– even BTS themselves. The camera caught them dancing, obviously enjoying Demi’s music.

Meanwhile, on Twitter, fans have started tweeting Demi’s responses from some interview. On one tweet, it read:

Following the thread, the user who posted it claims that Demi said it during the AMA’s live stream. The user added how the interviewers were apparently ‘shocked’ when they heard it. But fans who read this also tweeted that the live stream hadn’t even started when the user posted the said quote.

Following her tweet, another user posted the tweet below. This, too, was a hoax even if it wasn’t exactly against the group.

The Bottomline: Why would Demi Lovato hate on BTS?

Demi’s opening spiel before her performance was about anti-hate. Specifically, she said:”’There’s so much hate in this world, and never say sorry for who you are.” Talking ill about BTS isn’t exactly what Demi would do before or after that spiel.

So is Demi Lovato hating on BTS? Definitely not. The Hollywood Life also confirms that it is a complete hoax. A word of advice to anyone who has been fooled by this shenanigan: be a responsible social media user.
