The movie tells the true-to-life story of Robin Cavendish, the father of the film’s producer Jonathan Cavendish. Upon reading the script, Andrew Garfield instantly said yes to the role of Robin after being brought to tears by how moving and inspirational the story is. “There’s something humble about this story, which I like,” Garfield says. “There’s nothing grandiose about it, it’s just people getting on with their lives and living as fully as possible.” Photo by Pioneer Films Andrew Garfield Takes On New Hero Role as Polio-Stricken Wanderlust Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy bring the lives of couple Robin and Diana who are relentless at living life fully, fueled by nothing else but their love for each other, their courage, humor, and lust for life. Even if Robin was diagnosed with polio in his 20’s, Diana stayed strong, refusing to be put in a box by the devastating disease. Andrew Garfield, Breathe Robin travels the world paralyzed from the neck down relying only on a respirator with Diana. Because Robin wanted to see the sunrise over the Mediterranean, his wife Diana organizes a trip with their friends. Their creativity in making things work led them to adapting an old Bedford van for Robin’s wheelchair to fit in the passenger seat. As the story unfolds, unexpected and amazing things start turning up such as Robin’s family traveling with racehorses, getting into a transport plane for their van to reach Spain, and the edge-of-your-seat moment when the respirator burns out. He has survived so much in his adventures with his family across the world and because of this Robin wanted to encourage other severely disabled people. Robin was able to finance more wheelchairs like his own to be built. In Germany, he left many experts astonished by what he has achieved thus far.
