She was not even supposed to join because she had so much school work to do, but a day before the event, she went ahead and registered, without a piece in mind. The night before the competition, she decided to use an old poem that she wrote and performed during an Open Mic for A Cause. According to her, it only needed some revisions after which she started memorizing it. It was already 4 a.m. when she finally was satisfied with her performance. Learning To Love Spoken Word Her hard work paid off. When she performed her piece, one can feel all the emotions in her voice, from joy/happiness, pride, disappointment and pain from betrayal and loss. It is no wonder she won the competition. When asked about her comfort level with spoken word, she responded that she was very comfortable. The competition is only her second time to join a spoken word contest. The first competition she participated in was UP Piccola Italia’s contest, where she also won. Her love for spoken word poetry grew from then on. “I usually write about love, but I always want to write about social issues like politics, prostitution, depression, and other. And maybe my next topic would one of these,” she added. She wants to help other people who do not have a voice to express what they feel through her poetry. To Those Who Have Loved and Lost Having spoken about loving and losing someone, we also asked her what her message was to those who have gone through such pain and she had this to say: “Hindi dahil wala na siya, wala nang dahilan para mabuhay pa. ‘Wag mong paikutin ang mundo mo sa taong akala mo bubuo sayo. Dahil unang-una, matagal ka nang kumpleto.” Facebook Comments
