Darna continues to be the talk of the town since it was announced that Liza Soberano was set to take the titular role. No official announcement has been made as to casting for other roles. But rumors are already out as to who plays the role of Darna’s archrival Valentina. Apparently, the names of stars Anne Curtis and Sarah Lahbati are among those that are considered. Enrique Gil is also rumored to play a role in the upcoming film. Director Erik Matti talks about these roles and addresses these rumors.
Liza Soberano plays the iconic role of Darna which was initially meant for Angel Locsin. It was in 2013 when ABS-CBN earned the rights to Darna and announced that the movie is already underway. Two years later, Angel pulled out of the project and said she won’t be able to play the role. There was much speculation as to who could play the heroine role until it was announced in May that Liza was set to play Darna. There is much talk about the iconic film. Recently, Erik Matti spoke a bit about the new costume for Liza. Now he talks about casting.
Erik Matti on Darna cast, Will Anne Curtis, Sarah Lahbati and Enrique Gil be in on it?
First things first. There are no official announcements for the cast of Darna except of course for Liza. Direk Erik Matti was shocked to hear the names that were being dropped as part of the film.
A report by PEP says when direk Erik heard Enrique Gil’s name was already being announced during a previous meeting, he said he was surprised because they made no confirmations and nothing was final. He also cannot confirm if Iza Calzado will be a part of it.
What about Anne Curtis? or Sarah Lahbati? Are they being considered for the role of Darna’s archrival Valentina? Well, as soon as he heard this the renowned director let out a laugh and said they were talking about it but he cannot make any announcements yet. He even joked around a bit and said for sure it would be a girl.
The report further said that the production team is currently searching for the major characters. Even the role for Darna’s young side-kick, Ding, will be chosen through a series of auditions.
Erik Matti said, “We know some characters already who we are bringing in but we’re in the middle of developing the material. Later on, I’ll be having some design meetings.”
