Here we go again, with another Arrow Recap. This time, we’re doing Episode 6, and oh my Lord, what a doozy. This is the best episode of the season so far, and in my opinion, a good contender for the spot of my top 1 episode. Fair warning: The unexpected Prometheus reveal is no joke. SPOILER ALERT.
Arrow Season 5 Episode 6 — Prometheus’s Killing Spree
The episode kicks off with the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Spartan (David Ramsey) tracking down a lead on Prometheus. They mention how they haven’t informed the recruits about Prometheus. As they enter a warehouse, fires ignite, and burning oil on the floor spells out a message: SO IT BEGINS.
Prometheus then begins a series of murders across the city. First, he kills a housewife. Then, as DA Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) and the Green Arrow arrive at the crime scene, a cab driver across town falls victim to the same suspect. The media is quick to pick up on the trail of bodies and label the suspect as “The Throwing Star Killer.”
So It Begins: Arrow’s Hunt for Prometheus
Panic spreads across Star City. People know there’s a serial killer on the loose, but have no idea who he is, or what he looks like. Oliver and the recruits show up to stop the riot, while Felicity begins finding leads on their man.
And suddenly, the random victims turn out to be linked after all. The letters in their names can be rearranged to spell other names on of Oliver’s List.
The team is shocked to find out about the List, and tensions begin to mount among the recruits; particularly with Evelyn Sharp (Madison McLaughlin). They realize that Prometheus is sending a message to the Green Arrow: that Oliver himself is the serial killer.
Quentin Lance’s Return to Alcoholism
Thea (Willa Holland) notices that Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) is getting progressively worse at his job as Deputy Mayor. He tells her she isn’t drinking anymore, but she learns otherwise when she finds a bottle of whiskey in his office. Apparently, Quentin has never actually stopped drinking. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see him like this. I’ll take a moment to say that the show makes a good portrayal of a man who has lost his wife, his two daughters, his former calling as a police officer, and a potential love interest.
Artemis vs Prometheus
Oliver tracks down a list of potential targets Prometheus could go after, and he splits the team to shadow each one. Artemis ends up drawing the short straw: Prometheus decides to go after her target, and the two square off in a moving subway.
Artemis fires, but Prometheus dodges the first shot, and his body armor deflects the second. He doesn’t seem to initially care about her presence, and proceeds toward the frightened subway operator he intends to kill. Artemis warns him to stay away. She manages to wound Prometheus’s arm before he knocks her down. The Green Arrow arrives to end the fight, and Prometheus retreats, as he doesn’t intend to kill the Green Arrow as of yet.
Two Big Reveals: Konstantin Kovar and Prometheus
Flashback scenes this time around finally introduce us to Konstantin Kovar; the man Oliver had vowed to kill. He’s played by none other than Dolph Lundgren. There isn’t much to say yet about, him, since Episode 6’s flashbacks didn’t cover much ground. But he’s big, scary and ruthless, and that’s enough for me.
And now the main reveal. The episode ends with Felicity coming to terms with her boyfriend on keeping secrets. She actually tells him that she works for the Green Arrow, and he completely accepts it. Meanwhile, Oliver does the same with his recruits, saying he’s trying his best to change for the better. Felicity later informs Oliver that whoever Prometheus is, his weapons are made of the same alloy as Oliver’s own arrowheads.
The suspect has access to Star City Police District’s evidence archives, and he forges his own weaponry from Oliver’s own melted arrows. Finally, we are shown a hungover Quentin Lance waking up at home. He has a bleeding gash on his right arm where Artemis had cut him.
Final Thoughts on Arrow Season 5 Episode 6
I don’t normally do this, but a plot twist as big as we were given is worth an entire section. Don’t expect this to be a regular thing.
Wow. Just… wow. Quentin Lance is Prometheus. I’m at a loss. I fancy myself a decent fiction writer, but this kind of plot twist is just way over what I could have conceived.
I suppose it makes sense though. We have a villain who you can be emotionally attached to. I mean no matter how evil Prometheus might be, we look at Quentin Lance, and we see and feel his pain. We buy his motives. This is just some of the most heart-wrenching writing I’ve ever seen. I’ve said it again and again: A hero story is only as good as the villain. By God, this villain is gonna be good.
