Why Arrow’s Quentin Lance Is NOT Prometheus

Prometheus attacks Artemis

Arrow Season 5 Episode 6 left us last week with one of the biggest plot twists of the season. To be honest, I enjoy those kinds of plot twists. I mean Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) as Prometheus? That kind of emotional investment in a villain is the thing comic book stories are built on. But as I started thinking about it, a few things didn’t add up. Here are a few red flags that might suggest Quentin Lance might NOT be Prometheus. Arrow Episode 7 only strengthened that suspicion.

CW’s False Leads

The CW is known to lead their audiences on false trails. One of the bigger examples occurred when audiences were led to believe Roy Harper killed Sara Lance in Season 3. As it turned out, Roy was just another plot device meant to make audiences’ heads spin. Given the CW’s history, there is a possibility Quentin might just be the next in a long list of false leads.

Think about it. It’s almost too easy to be handed a prime suspect this early in the season. Is there a possibility Quentin enters his alter ego when drunk? Yes. There is. Remember Occam’s Razor, however. The explanation with fewer assumptions is likely the right one. Quentin having an alter ego is just one assumption too many.

Alternative Suspects

Here’s the thing. Quentin Lance might have subconscious hatred for the Green Arrow. He also has knowledge of The List, and he has access to the police evidence depot. But if you think about it, The List is no secret. Everyone on The List has knowledge of it. How many of these people might have family or friends in law enforcement or politics?

Add another fact to that list: even if we assume alcoholism can result in a dissociated persona for Quentin, it’s unlikely his body can perform the agile and physically demanding feats Prometheus has demonstrated thus far.

Arrow Season 5 Episode 7 Prometheus Appearance

Episode 7’s cliffhanger ending suggests that Artemis (Madison McLaughlin) and Prometheus are working together. It makes sense, considering Evelyn Sharp’s anger towards the Green Arrow. This happened all while Quentin was presumably in a rehabilitation facility. Unless Quentin jumped the wagon again, he can’t be our villain.

Who is Prometheus?

It’s still too early to say, but one person sticks out like a sore thumb: Billy Malone (Ryler Ritter). Why Billy? He seems like a good cop, doesn’t he? I mean he’s a part of Oliver’s Anti-Crime Unit. Yes. That’s true. However, Billy was not originally a part of the unit. Lieutenant Conahan’s (Ryam Williams) death in Season 5 Episode 1 was the only reason there was a vacant spot on the ACU.

Remember: Prometheus is methodical. He doesn’t pick targets without reason. Out of the four bodies he has dropped since the beginning of the season, Lt. Conahan’s was the only one that seemed random. But was it random? Who had the most to gain? The only person who had anything to gain with Conahan’s death was in fact, Billy Malone.
