Say it loud and proud Filipina fashionistas! Nineteen-year-old Filipina-German Model Maureen Wroblewitz is in the Top 3 of Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5. She made it to the final round despite being in the bottom two this week. Maureen is in the running of becoming the first Filipina to ever win the ANTM model search. She is coming against Malaysian Shikin Gomez and Vietnam’s Minh Tu Nguyen. This feat sends a strong message that Maureen is not just a pretty face.

Maureen told ABS-CBN that being in the Top 3 is something she has never expected. Tu and Shikin have been her “biggest competitors” and standing alongside them is “crazy.” If there is one thing that all three have in common is their determination to win. She also says that she has learned so much and getting into the final round makes me “more proud” of what she has achieved thus far.

Maureen was discovered on Instagram. According to ASNTM, Maureen got into the modeling business because she was discovered by a modeling agent on Instagram. At that time she a 15-year-old who chased after her dreams. It was reflex for her to make a decision to move to the Philippines from Germany to pursue her career in modelling. When asked about other careers she wants to get into, she said she would like to be an actress because she is “dedicated to Art.”

She felt “very insecure” during the ASNTM photo shoots. In an interview with Preview, Maureen discloses that she felt “very insecure” during photo shoots because she was the “youngest, the shortest and the girl with the least experience.” She adds that in every pose she does everyone watches her and she could just “feel everything.” Even during their downtime in the house, she would take in harsh words from other contestants for being a pretty face. In one episode, she was told that she doesn’t have the skills to become a top model. Despite this, she focuses on herself and takes all of these as learning experiences. Her striving has brought her success thus far, now that she is the Top 3.

Maureen Wroblewitz is proud to be a Filipino. Many may not know that Maureen was called a “fake Filipina” while growing up. However, according to her, she is not a fake Filipino. In reality, she grew up with her Filipina mom who has taught her well. She has also been visiting the Philippines every year even if she lived abroad. She tells Preview that she learned so much about the culture. Filipinos to her are “super friendly, super welcoming, super proud of their country.” She grew up with that mindset. “I know how Filipinos are, and I’m really proud to be one,” Maureen stresses.
