According to the Baguio City Police, eight establishments were served closure orders by city hall representatives accompanied by uniformed policemen. Closure Due To Violations Of Liquor Code Four of these establishments are prominent night spots in the city. Red Lion Pub along Leonard Wood Loop is included. Concoctions, which is a restaurant and bar that hosts local musical and live events also got a closure order. Ampersand, at The Camp along Leonard Wood Road, also received a closure order. The order was reverted on Mar. 5 because the liquor ordinance does not cover the establishment which operates with a Marketing and Events Production permit. Five smaller bars, namely Susan’s Bar, Igorota’s Bar, Supersonic KTV Bar, Golden Kalaleng Bar and the Likour Store were also included in the closure orders. According to the Herald Express, City Licensing officer Allan Abayao cited violations of the Liquor Code or COB 88, series of 2009 as the reasons for the closures. These bars violated the closing time of 12 a.m. on several instances and despite several warnings. Most of the bars were reported to be operating as late as 3 a.m. Reactions To Closures The city’s association of bars earlier proposed to local government to extend closing time to 2 a.m. While this is still under study by the City Council, the current curfew remains. Abayao says that more establishments may be issued closure orders soon as they are strictly implementing this rule. The closures earned mixed reactions on social media, from agreement, amusement and even sadness for some. Some netizens lamented on the loss of several cool places to hang out. Only Concoctions took to social media to address the issue. Through their Facebook page, they cited that the matter is now in the hands of the local courts and that they will post updates soon.
