On Tuesday, October 10, Baguio City celebrated the 25th Local Government Month and Barangay Day with the theme, “Pagsulong.Progreso.Pagbabago” at the Baguio Convention Center. Presidential Proclamation No. 63 recognized the important role of local government units in nation building and declared the month of October every year as Local Government Month and the 10th of October as the Local Government Day.

The Department of Local Government (DILG) headed by CAR-Regional Director Marlo L. Iringan and City Director Evelyn B. Trinidad took this opportunity to give awards to the Best Barangay Peace and Order Council 2015. It was then that they also launched two projects: ‘Listong Pamilya’ and ‘Masa Masid Program’

DILG launches ‘Listong Pamilya’ with Super Listo

The ‘Listong Pamilya’ is a project headed by the DILG in partnership with Clinical Counselling and Stress Management International (CCSM), represented by Dr. Noel Cacho. This project aims to educate the community about disaster preparedness in the family level. The group will be going to each barangay, educating families on how to prepare themselves for any calamity.

In an effort to let people remember the ‘Listong Pamilya’ initiative, DILG and CCSM introduced ‘Super Listo’, a super hero that embodies the vision and goal of the project: inspire members of each family to be alert, aware and be prepared for any emergency situation.

DILG launches ‘Masa Masid Program’

‘Masa Masid’ is an abbreviation for Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga. This is a community based program for the prevention of corruption, illegal drugs and criminality in barangays. This aims to unite different organizations in creating safer and drug-free communities in the country.

Under th DILG Memorandum 2016-116, the program has four main thrusts: information and education campaign in communities for government programs against corruption, illegal drugs and criminality; creation of a reporting mechanism on illegal drugs-related activities; formulation of community-based rehabilitation programs; and revive the spirit of volunteerism by creating a volunteer-friendly atmosphere for organizations that wishes to be partners for change.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan celebrates 70th Birthday on Barangay Day

Honorable Mayor Domogan celebrated his 70th birthday on the same day that Baguio City celebrated Barangay Day. He was surprised by fellow politicians, members of the barangay council and the audience with gifts and a birthday song.
