This year, the Year of the Pig begins on February 5, Tuesday. Baguio’s Filipino-Chinese community begins each Spring Festival with a flag-raising ceremony at the Baguio City Hall. Media practitioners and social media influencers participated in the traditional Media Fellowship night on January 29 hosted by Hotel Supreme, where the Baguio Filipino-Chinese community shared their lineup of activities for this year’s celebration. All About Giving Back To The Community During this time of the year, the Filipino-Chinese in Baguio make it a point to share their blessings with the rest of the community. This year, they chose deserving families from their beneficiary barangay, Pinsao Pilot. The barangay gift-sharing was conducted on February 1, 2019, at the barangay’s covered court. On Feb. 5, Tuesday, the Bell Church in La Trinidad, Benguet will be the venue for the New Year Celebration which starts at 1:00 p.m. This will be followed by another community gift-giving program at the temple grounds. Nationwide, Feb. 5 is has been declared as a special non-working holiday. Grand Colorful Parade and Dinner Awards Night On Feb. 6 Baguio City schools and universities will have no classes on February 6, as announced by the local government unit. This was done to allow kids and students to watch the Grand Colorful Parade at 2:30 p.m. The parade will originate at Upper Session Road and end at Melvin Jones Grandstand. During the parade, local business groups will be giving out goodies and candies to the crowds along the parade route. In the evening, the Hotel Supreme will be the venue once again for the Dinner Awards Night. This time around, the Filipino-Chinese community will honour outstanding people who have contributed to the development of the city and the Filipino-Chinese community.
