September has passed and October is around the corner. The air in Baguio is getting nippier and colder by the moment. Here is our round-up of events in Baguio City for the month of October. From art workshops, fashion shows and even cars, there are activities and events for everyone to enjoy.

A Dose Of Art: Art Workshops And Shows
Baguio has always been known as a haven for artists, so it is but natural for artists to choose the city as a venue for teaching art. On Oct. 21, Saturday, self-taught artist Jomil Adrielle who is known for her work with lettering and letters, will be conducting a Watercolor and Brush Lettering Workshop. The workshop will be held at Cafe By The Ruins Dua, and will run from 1 to 4 p.m. The workshop fee of PhP 1,500 covers the workshop kit and light snacks. “BiYao,” a father and son art exhibit of Chinese painter Norman Chow and his son and KLite FM DJ Chino Chow will run from Oct. 4 to 30 at the Baguio Museum. The Chows will showcase their Chinese paintings of unseen Baguio landscapes. For more information about the show, read Pilipinas Popcorn’s article about the event.
Another father and child exhibit is happening at VOCAS, located on the top floor of La Azotea Building along Session Road. “Sin-Ama” is a joint exhibit of artist Ged Alangui and his 11-year-old daughter, Sakura, which features artworks that pay homage to Indigenous Peoples’ Month. These exhibits will run from Oct. 1 to Nov. 10.
Baguio Gong Festival 2017
October is Indigenous Peoples’ Month and Baguio celebrates it with the Baguio Gong Festival. This year’s activities include the Pamana Art Exhibit at Albergo Hotel, which runs from Oct. 1 to 30, film showing at Ili-likha Artist Vilage from Oct. 12 to 14, and an indigenous culinary contest and tapping demonstration on Oct. 14. The highlight of the celebration will be the Gong Festival where different Cordillera indigenous groups will converge at Ibaloi Park as they dance to the beat of the gongs. Cars Galore And Much More At Baguio Auto Fest
Baguio Auto Forum hosts this year’s Baguio Auto Fest from Oct. 21 to 22 at the CAP Convention Center, in Camp John Hay. This car show is said to be the biggest one in Northern Luzon, where car owners can showcase their souped-up cars and vehicles. This year, the auto fest will also have a food and products bazaar as part of the event, as well as a Beer Pong Competition and an RC Drift Competition.
Facets: FAME Baguio Fashion Ball
Fashion enthusiasts and fashionistas will enjoy the third run of FAME Baguio’s Fashion Ball. Called Facets, it will be held at Venue Parkview Hotel along Kisad Road on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. The fashion ball will feature creative presentations of FAME Baguio members on fashion and fashion design, hair and make-up and modeling. Seminars, Learning Opportunities This Month
Baguio is also the go-to place for national seminars and for the month of October, there are two national conferences happening in the city of pines. The Center for Professional Advancement of Educators presents a National Seminar-Workshop on Action Research on K to 12 Education, from Oct. 20 to 22 at the Crown Legacy Hotel, Kisad Road. This seminar hopes to bring school administrators and teachers to learn about how to do action research in their own schools.
The Early Childhood Care And Development (ECCD) Council will be holding the 2017 National Conference on Inclusion of Children With Developmental Delays In The Early Years, from Oct. 23 to 25, at the Baguio Teacher’s Camp. For information on how to register, visit the conference website.
