A recent report says that there will be more earthquakes to be felt in the year 2018. In 2017, significant earthquakes were recorded. In March 22, an earthquake hit Baguio on the same day the city was under a simultaneous earthquake drill. The next day, it was reported that there were four recorded earthquakes since the 22nd. In April, a series of earthquakes hit Batangas and other parts of Mindanao.

Baguio Earthquake Feb 5, class suspensions

A moderately strong earthquake was felt in Baguio City which falls under Intensity IV. This means it is felt generally by people indoors and by some people outdoors. Light sleepers are awakened and the vibration felt is similar to that of a heavy truck passing by. Hanging objects swing considerably while floors and walls of wood-framed buildings creak. Liquids in containers are slightly disturbed.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 4 kilometers east of Pugo, La Union with a magnitude of 3.8. The tremor was of tectonic origin. According to a post by the Civil Defense Cordillera, PHILVOLCS says no damages and aftershocks are expected. See post below.

In case another earthquake will be felt, Civil Defense Cordillera gives us pointers for safety. The important this is don’t panic, stay calm and do the duck, cover, and hold. Stay away from glass windows, shelves, and other heavy objects. If outside, move to an open area and stay away from trees, powerlines, posts, and concrete structures. If in a moving vehicle, stop and get out. Do not attempt to cross bridges, overpasses, or flyover which may have been damaged.

As to class suspensions, Saint Louis University had decided to suspend classes as posted by the SLU Supreme Student Council.
