Days are getting even more colorful as March sweeps in with a warm, summer breeze. This year also marks the 22nd Panagbenga Flower Festival in Baguio City. The merriments started with a familiar splash of green, yellow and purple of the annual Grand Street Dance Parade performed by elementary and high school students around Baguio and across neighboring provinces like Pangasinan, Itogon, Bontoc and Kalinga.

The theme of this year’s Flower Festival is “Inspired by beauty, nurtured by nature.” Participants showed off their outstanding dances and striking costumes while the crowd howled in delight.

Panagbenga’s Annual Grand Street Dance Parade Winners

For the elementary division, there were nine schools that participated in the Street Dance Parade. Third place goes to Emilio Aguinaldo Elementary School with a grade of 74.43 percent; Second place goes to Baguio Central Elementary School with 83.67 percent. And the reigning champion is Apolinario Mabini Elementary School.

There were also special awards: Best in Choreography goes to Dominican Mirador Elementary School. Apolinario Mabini Elementary school also snatched both Best in Musical Interpretation and Best in Costumes and Props awards.

For the high school division, four schools participated. Third place goes to Pines National High School with a score of 77.13 percent. Second place goes to Saint Louis High School with 78.88 percent. And first place goes to Baguio City National High School 83.17 percent.

The Open Category Division had eight schools that participated. Awards go to Virac Itogon (VES Drum and Lyre Corps) for winning third place with a score of 78.68 percent. Second place goes to the Lubuagen Performing Group with 78.28 percent. Winning as champion is the Pugo Catholic School.
