For those who aren’t fans of wide cinema houses and being seated next to loud strangers, there’s a movie house inside Cedar Peak that could be good for you. There’s nothing like a private, air-conditioned room with comfy couches to keep you settled. Tiyatro offers a private KTV and private cinema– perfect for housing your own group of rowdy friends.

This 2017, Cedar Peak– the huge fancy building at Lower Mabini Street officially opened its doors to customers. Inside the building, specifically at the Entrance floor, is Tiyatro. It’s got a small waiting room that includes the counter. Although small, it makes sense because most of the space is reserved for the rooms.

In short, Tiyatro offers rooms you can rent for watching your favorite movies, series, and sing karaoke. Prices differ from room sizes: Small rooms (2-6 persons) can cost from P180-P200. Medium rooms (2-9 persons) can cost from P200-P270. Big rooms (2-16 persons) can cost from P300-P500. Take note that those prices are charged per hour. So if there are two of you in a small room with a movie length of an hour and 30 minutes, that will cost you P270.

Baguio’s Tiyatro Experience: Private Cinema, Private KTV

In services where commodities are shared with other customers, sanitation is an important factor to consider. And so far, in all the rooms I’ve entered, there hasn’t been an issue with keeping things tidy. The service crew always checks before you come in. The couches are neatly arranged, no crumbs, no water spills, no cockroaches either. You can even smell the faint aerosol in the air-conditioned rooms.

Inside the room are the flat-screen TV, a CCTV camera, and a table for the food you order. Oh yeah, you can buy food here! Back at the counter, there’s an array of chips perfect for watching movies. You can also order drinks to go with it.

Aside from this, they have promos you can avail for– which is totally affordable! The Pizza Promo costs P140 and it includes a jug of iced tea and one family-sized pizza. If you’re a fan of Cheesy Beef Nachos, they’ve got it too! And for the same price of P140. Even cheaper is their Barkada Promo which is P99, good for 4, and includes iced tea, popcorn or fries. Personally, I’ve enjoyed their promos– it’s delicious and pocket-friendly.

Another promo worth mentioning is their Popcorn Promo. Now, this isn’t in their price list because it’s free. That’s right. You get a bucket of popcorn for free if you happen to answer their weekly movie questions posted on their Facebook Page. Unfortunately, I haven’t been active enough to catch their recent posts. The rule is that they post a scene from a movie, and you guess the title. And if you do it quickly enough, you’ve got yourself free munchies on your next movie date.

Sadly though, there isn’t a private comfort room for every room either. There’s a common bathroom for everyone– and when the time comes for tons of customers, there can be a line waiting for you. And time is ticking when you’re watching.

Also, because this isn’t a theatre house, the movies previewed here are very limited. They offer a selection of movies that are either popular or plain random. So you can’t watch currently showing movies on cinemas in Tiyatro. You have to wait till the DVD is out, and cross your fingers that they’ve got it.

Personally, I haven’t always found the movies I would have wanted to watch. Nonetheless, they’ve still got a great list of films to watch.

My experience in Tiyatro had been a good one– it’s near the city proper so if there’s nothing else to do, a stop over at Tiyatro would be a suitable break. I think it’s a great place to watch a movie that’s located near Session Road. Or even dance silly with friends singing Katy Perry on the microphone.
