Baguio is known to have the coldest temperatures from December and January to February every year. This year, the lowest temperature recorded so far was on Sunday, Jan 14, at 11.4 degrees Celsius. It’s one of the reasons why the City of Pines is such a hit with tourists. They get to wear sweaters and jackets, bonets, and scarves, and get away from the heat even for just a while.
In January last year, the Philippine Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported of temperatures hitting 9.3 degrees Celsius. Just when Baguio citizens thought it couldn’t get any colder, it reached a new low in February 2017. Baguio City experienced one of the coldest temperatures hitting 7.3 degrees Celsius on Feb 15 dropping further down to 7.4 degrees Celsius. The next day, Feb 16, Atok, Benguet hit -2 degrees Celsius creating a winter effect on crops.
A week before Christmas in 2017, Baguio temperature started to get colder as the mercury dropped to 12.5 degrees Celsius.
Baguio Temperature gets colder, January 2018
Recently, mercury in Baguio has been dropping further. Temperature was 16 degrees on Jan 4 which then plunged to 14.6 degrees on Jan 11. On Saturday, Jan 13, the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera (OCD-CAR) reported the lowest temperature in the city on that day at 12.8 degrees Celsius. This was due to the tail end of a cold front.
On Sunday, Jan 14, Baguio hit its lowest temperature so far this year at 11.4 degrees Celsius. On Monday, the lowest temperature recorded was at 12.4 degrees Celsius.
According to AccuWeather, lowest temperature from Jan 15 to Jan 20 will be 14 degrees Celsius. The chart also shows that for the remainder of the month of January, lowest temperature is forecast to be at 13 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in the history of Baguio was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius in January 1961.
