The local water district is doing mitigation measures to assure the supply of water this coming summer season in the summer capital of the Philippines. Full rehabilitation of the rainwater harvesting facility at Mount Santo Tomas and construction and completion of the Busol watershed are some of the steps being done by BWD to assure that waves of tourist will not compromise the water supply in the City especially during summer season. Deep wells in the Tam-Awan village, T. Alonzo, Camp 8 watershed along Military Cut-off, and at the Tip-top area near the Busol watershed are also being constructed. This is after areas of Pacdal, Aurora Hill and Ferguson are identified by BWD to have the least supply of water. Baguio water supply, Summer 2018 “At the moment, we are undergoing with the P300 million peso grant from the national government for the major rehabilitation of our pipeline subsystem 5 and 6at area 3 which covers the Pacdal area, while the bulk water supply project at the Badiwan springs at Tuba, Benguet is expected to be felt next year,” BWD General Manager Salvador Royeca explained during the weekly “Ugnayan sa Environmental Code” forum as reported by Sunstar Baguio. On the first week of January, BWD general manager Salvador Royeca together with some officials of the water utilities inspected the rain basin renovation project worth P86,415,415 which was completed last month. Royeca said in a statement as reported by Sunstar Baguio that once the project is completed, ‘it will be utilized during the last quarter of 2018 towards the summer of 2019 but nevertheless our other sources to supply Marcos Highway are ready.’ Reforestation activities within the surroundings of Mount Sto Tomas rain catchment basin are also initiated by BWD in order to address the water demands of Baguio City during the summer.
