Share on Facebook Share on Twitter After the frenzy and euphoria of Ginebra’s win on Sunday, October 16, social media is still going crazy about it. Especially with the revival of the classic team anthem written by Gary Granada and sung by Bayang Barrios-Villegas “Kapag Nananalo ang Ginebra.” The video of an acoustic version of the song with Bayang singing and Gary playing the guitar was posted on Bayang’s Facebook page and has currently around 360,000 views. Aside from knowing that it is a song about a basketball team and that it is written by Gary Granada, here are four interesting tidbits about it. 1. The original version of the song was written by Gary Granada back in the 1990s, when Robert Jaworski was still active in the team. And Bayang Barrios-Villegas also sang the original version of the song. Watch and listen to the original version below. WATCH: PBA Nostalgia “Pag Nanalo and Ginebra via Variety YouTube channel 2. Gary Granada is a die-hard Barangay Ginebra fan, and as a singer-songwriter, he has shown his love for the team by composing not just one, but four anthems about his favorite team. Aside from “Kapag Nananalo ang Ginebra,” he also wrote an opposite version called “Kapag Natatalo ang Ginebra.” Another one is titled “Ginebrang Ginebra.” The latest one he wrote is “Dugong Ginebra” which was written after the team won the 2008 PBA Championship. 3. The songs, most especially the one about losing “Kapag Natatalo…” are said to reflect the real feelings behind the very dedicated fan base of Ginebra. This is so because the team has been going through a long dry spell (eight years!) up until its recent win and fans were frustrated about it. Just take a look at some of the lyrics, or better yet, listen to the song below. “Dumidilim ang aking paningin, Ang tenga ko ay nagpapanting Bumabalik sa aking isip, Ang nakaaway ko noong Grade 6 Parang gusto ko nang magkagiyera, Pag natatalo ang Ginebra” WATCH: “Pag Natalo and Ginebra via Buraot YouTube channel 4. The version that Bayang and Gary sang in the video is an updated version of the song, which was made by online singing sensation Maria Gracia Gonzales. According to Spin.ph, she was able to update the names of the players and the scenarios. Her video also went viral as she released it after the Sunday win. Facebook Comments
