Choi has been hospitalized and was in critical condition for the past few days due to a drug overdose. A spokesperson for the hospital says the singer has regained consciousness and is now stable but is in need of psychiatric treatment. On June 5, T.O.P released a hand written apology for using marijuana. The next day, news broke out about him being indicted for his marijuana use and was suspended from military service. A few days after, the Korean singer was rushed to the Ewha Woman’s University Medical Center in Seoul for a drug overdose. T.O.P lost consciousness and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit for the past few days. Choi’s mother spoke out about how police reported that he was not in critical condition while in reality he really was not ok. Choi Seung-hyun had an apparent overdose of benzodiazepine. He is suspected of smoking marijuana with another singer named Han in October 2016. T.O.P’s agency, YG Entertainment, apologized on behalf of Choi for being caught up in a scandal that involves illegal drugs. Choi’s military service is put on hold until the court reaches a verdict. T.O.P update: condition improving, psychiatric treatment needed A report by Yonhap says T.O.P’s condition has improved on Thursday and that his family and experts say he is in need of psychiatric treatment. His mother said that he has improved substantially and Choi was even able to make eye with her. A police official from T.O.P’s squad also said Choi was able to recognize him and is now able to communicate. A spokesperson for the hospital confirms that T.O.P has gained full consciousness and his vitals are normal and stable. The official said, “We believe he will be able to leave the ICU care unit tomorrow.” Doctors have assessed that the 29-year-old rapper is in need of psychiatric treatment and is being decided if he will receive the treatment in the hospital or at an outside medical institution.
