The Bank Of the Philippine Islands (BPI) application was offline on Wednesday morning. Complaints were made saying some have been debited twice or credited twice for a transaction. Here’s what we know and we think you should know.

A report by ABS-CBN shows BPI clients complain of losing a certain amount due to an automatic debit. One of those who complained was Kim Avelino, a human resource officer in Ortigas. She said that she lost P 12,000. Her officemate, on the other hand, took out P 2,000 but lost P 5,000.

1. Mispostings could either be double in amount or could be negative. Errors in the reading of these mispostings include either a double amount or could reflect a negative amount. A netizen on Twitter said his account reflects a double in amount. Some even amounted to 100k.

2. ATM could be accessible. Although online transactions are inaccessible, balance checks can be done through ATM report says. Precaution should be taken and it is advised for clients not to make any withdrawals yet to avoid getting the automatic debit as stated above.

3. Currently correcting mispostings. In the announcement made by BPI, they have assured their clients that they are currently fixing these mispostings as of writing.

4. Internal processing error. BPI is fully aware of what is happening and announced via Twitter that these error in transactions are due to an internal data processing error. See post below.

5. An advice by concerned citizen, take screenshots of transaction history. A concerned citizen on Facebook who lost P 20,000 on Wednesday has spoken to a BPI employee. She said that clients should take a screenshot of transaction history if there are irregularities. Visit a BPI branch to report or complain. It is advised not to take advantage of the opportunity that reflects an amount higher than the original since this can be traced by the management. Reports say this problem will be fixed within the day.
