The K-pop boyband, BTS, has come a long way from being the most popular boyband in South Korea to becoming international artists. They have continued to slay the music charts beating the likes of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. 2017 has been a good year for BTS. They’ve achieved numerous milestones for their career and even a world record. A few celebrities have also expressed their love for BTS proving the boyband can impress just about anyone.
BTS is composed of seven amazingly talented boys V, RM, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, Suga, and J-Hope. Their catchy songs, smooth moves, and adorable personalities easily make them a fan favorite for anyone. They are on their way to becoming the biggest boyband on the planet. Here are a few things to know about BTS. How they started their musical journey all the way to how they made number one hits.
BTS Auditioned their way into the band
It takes time to create a superband like BTS. The seven-member band was formed through auditions by Bit Hit Entertainment in 2010 and 2011, and finalized in 2012. After training to be a boyband, BTS went to work in creating their first single album in 2013, “2 Cool 4 Skool.” They quickly became the hottest acts of South Korea. They even won several New Artist of the Year awards. In just four years, the band had three world tours and released four studio albums. They were able to break into the American music industry with their album “Wings.”
Winning A Billboard Music Award
The South Korean boyband shocked the music industry when they won “Top Social Artist” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards in May. BTS is the first ever K-pop group to win a Billboard Music Award. They beat out the likes of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez for the category. When the boys took the stage to receive their award, they were shocked but thankful. They thanked their fanbase Army, who went out of their way to make sure BTS won “Top Social Artist.”
Krist Aquino and other celebrities are fans of BTS
A lot of celebrities have also sent some love to the popular K-pop group. Kris Aquino has expressed her love for BTS on Instagram. She posted about buying the same Guccis sequinned jacket as BTS member Jimin. Kris even said in her caption, she was a proud member of the BTS Army. She became a fan of the boys after watching them perform. She was impressed with their dancing and their singing. Immediately like other BTS fangirls, she fell in love with the band.
Other celebrities include “Divergent” and “Fault in Our Stars” actor Ansel Elgort. During the promotion of his movie “Baby Driver” in South Korea, he met up with the boys. He even posted on Twitter showing their mutual support for one another. According to Fuse TV, the boys have captured many celebrity hearts such as Camila Bello, Halsey, and Chainsmokers.
BTS Collaborates with UNICEF
Many of BTS’ songs tackle social issues so it makes sense for the band to work with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). They are working on an anti-violence campaign called “Love Myself.” According to the campaign’s website they a two-year-long partnership with the Korean Committee for UNICEF. They are sponsoring #ENDViolence. The campaign focuses on making the world a safer place for children and teenagers to live happy and healthy lives, without living in the fear of violence. BTS donated 3% of their earnings from their album “Love Yourself,” to the #ENDViolence campaign.
They changed the meaning of their name BTS
Many fans know BTS stands for “Bangtan Sonyeondan” which translates to “Bulletproof Boyscout.”But ever since breaking into the International market the boys decided to rebrand themselves. In an interview with Radio Disney, the boys confirmed the name change. BTS now means “Beyond the Scenes.” The name change helps them fully establish who they are as artists. With the name change, the boys of BTS are focusing on continuing to evolve their music and style.
Hitting a Twitter World Record
The boys have already set the record as the first K-pop group to win a BMA but now they’re hitting more records. Aside from rising album sales and continuing number one hits. The boys are dubbed as one of the most Tweet about celebrities of 2017! The boys have over 10.8 million followers so it’s no surprise they became one of the most Tweet about celebrities this year. According to Billboard, they are not only the most Tweet about in the US alone but the whole world. Other records the boys have been breaking chart lists. BTS is the highest-charting entry into the Billboard Hot 100 for a K-pop group, with “MIC Drop” debuting at No. 28. These boys are so close to taking over the world.
Late-Night talk show appearances
These boys with their charming personalities have been dominating the Late night talk show scene in America. Because who wouldn’t want the most popular boy band of 2017 on their show? They made their Late night debut on “Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel,” they performed a few of their songs on the show. During a “Behind the Scenes” segment of Kimmel BTS surprised a few of their fans and their moms.
Meanwhile on “Late Night with James Cordon,” Cordon gave the boys the proper welcome to his show. Cordon is known for his crazy segments with celebrities such as “Spill your Guts or Fill your Guts,” where you either answer a personal question or eat something disgusting. His other segments include throwing things at you. The seven-man group had to prove they can keep their cool when things are being thrown at their face on the segment “Flinch.”
They learned English by watching ‘Friends’
The boys even made friends with everyone’s favorite Daytime talk show host Ellen Degeneres. It included an interview that charmed not only Ellen but everyone in the audience. BTS’ RM opened up to Ellen about how he learned to speak English. He told Ellen they watched the sitcom “Friends,” to learn how to speak English. RM told everyone his mother even bought him 10 DVDs of every season of “Friends.” At first, he watched them with Korean subtitles and then English subtitles and then none at all. Now that’s one way of learning a new language.
They also performed their song “Mic Drop,” making everyone a new fan of the band.
DNCE wants to collaborate with BTS
BTS is becoming so popular it’s a matter of time they start collaborating with big names. The band DNCE, known for their hits such as “Cake” and “Toothbrush,” have expresses their interest in collaborating with BTS. During a Fan tweet session, one fan asked if the band was a fan of BTS. DNCE tweeted back saying they absolutely love BTS and would love to work with them any day. So there might be a DNCE and BTS collaboration in the near future.

The K-pop group has achieved so much in their music career even Times magazine have noticed. Times included them on the list of the 25 the most influential people on the Internet. Their many records and awards have helped them make it to the list. Ever since 2016 and their fans helped them reach the Billboard hits by propelling their song “Wings” to the top of the charts. Their influence is impressive. The magazine even mentioned how BTS’ fan base could give Beyonce’s Beyhive a run for its money when it came to a wide and dedicated fanbase.
