South Korean K-Pop group BTS has made history breaking their own record on the Billboard Hot 100. In October, the track “DNA” made it to No. 67. Recently, “Mic Drop” made it to No. 28. on the list. The track is a remix with Steve Aoki and Desiigner.
This isn’t the first time BTS broke a record. In November, they made it to the list of Guinness World Records 2018 for having the most number of Twitter engagements for a music group. They got a whopping 6 million tweets with the hashtag #BTSxAMAs. Click here to read the full story. Their hit, “DNA,” got 3M views on YouTube. There is no stopping the Bangtan Boys as they have been called “the biggest boy band in the world” by international hosts like James Corden and Jimmey Kimmel.
BTS ‘Mic Drop’ reaches No 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, Watch video
“Mic Drop” is the seventh song of the mini-album “Love Yourself: Her” by BTS released on Nov 24. It feaures rapper Desiigner and is remixed by American Electro musician Steve Aoki. Steve has collaborated with artists like LMFAO, Linkin Park, Iggy AZalea, Louis Tomlinson and more.
Billboard reported that the track debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the chart dated Dec 16. This marks the first BTS track that made it to the top 40. According to Billboard, the track “claims the honor of highest-charting Hot 100 hit by a K-pop group from BTS’ first and only other Hot 100 entry, DNA, which reached No. 67 on the chart dated Oct. 14.” The report further says “Mic Drop” has had 9.8 million sreams in the US and has had 45,000 downloads sold.
The only South Korean artist who made it to the list once before was singer and rapper Psy. The hit “Gangnam Style” made it No. 2 on the Hot 100 in 2012. “Gentleman” also made it as No. 5 in 2013.
On Twitter, BTS Army members celebrate the success of the K-Pop group with the hashtag #BTSHOT100_28. The user BTS on Billboard acknowledged the efforts of the ARMY in working “extremely hard” in buying, streaming, and requesting. Another tweet showes the recent achievements of BTS and ended with how BTS didn’t ask to be on the top 40 of the Hot 100 but still made it.
