‘BTS: Burn The Stage,’ 5 Moments That Made Us All Emotional

BTS

In March, BTS dropped the first episode of their docuseries “Burn The Stage” on YouTube Red. The show follows the K-Pop group during their 2017 Wings Tour. BTS was every bit intimate and transparent redefining what behind-the-scenes are all about. BTS takes fans through their journey of becoming one of the biggest K-pop hits in the world. “BTS: Burn The Stage” is already halfway through its course. And so far, here are five moments BTS made us feel all emotional:

1. Jungkook Collapses

K-pop stars are no stranger to overworking. No matter how much friends, family or fans worry, these artists work themselves to the bone to give the best to their supporters. And for Jungkook, it was his first time to feel the brunt of it on their tour. At the beginning of the BTS concert in Chile, Jungkook could barely stand. However, he forced himself to perform.

Jungkook made it through. But, when he reached the dressing room, he lost control of his body. He was laid down and the staff was pumping air into him every now and then to help him breathe. For a moment, it seemed that there was only a slim chance of Jungkook recovering within the concert hours. Every single one of the boys was worried about him. He recovered, however, and continued to finish their schedule.

Jungkook explained that he overworked himself because he was worried that they might not meet their fans there for a long time. He wanted to be remembered in the best light possible. So, no matter what happened, the show must go on.

2. Jimin Faces His Insecurities

BTS is a firestorm of confidence on stage. But, they are also human. They face insecurities like everybody else. For Jimin, it’s an everyday struggle with his singing. This insecurity hit him pretty hard in their rehearsal for the concert in Brazil. He made minimal errors and the other boys of BTS were very supportive and tried to comfort him. However, Jimin was terribly upset. And to see someone admired by so many because of his talent fall into the dark pit of self-doubt is truly heartbreaking.

Suga revealed that when Jimin first joined them, he would cry after every performance because he couldn’t sing well. Jungkook said that Jimin greatly improved in singing ever since their trainee days. Jimin’s solo song “Serendipity” is even the frontline of BTS’ album “Love Yourself.” However, that doesn’t stop Jimin from doubting himself with each performance. Jimin admitted that he loses confidence. And no matter how encouraging and supportive his members are, he struggles to pull himself back up.

3. V Gets Into A Fight With Jin

Fighting with a friend will always be one of the worst feelings in the world. However, it’s part of the whole deal. BTS has always had strong bonds with each other. But sometimes, they also hurt each other. Minutes before the start of their concert in New York, V and Jin got into an argument about the choreography for “Spring Day.” V was trying to suggest that Jin move faster. However, Jin keeps insisting that he’s already doing his best. Members tried to help resolve the issue but, things had already escalated. Jin apologized but, V left the room without a word. The two went on with the concert without saying a word to each other.

After the concert, BTS made it a point to talk about what happened. V was hurt that Jin wasn’t taking him seriously especially that he was talking about the performance. On the other hand, Jin’s pride as the older one was bruised. With the help of the other boys, the two managed to put it behind them. As they both promised to change for the better, V couldn’t stop the tears that ran freely down his cheeks.

4. BTS Talks About The Good Old Days

Before BTS made their debut in 2013, they were just boys striving for their dreams. Now, they can talk about the hardships of their past with smiles, laughter and a couple huge boxes of pizza. And seeing this, you can see how far they’ve really come.

Suga recalled how he felt so hopeless back in their trainee days. He always bought one lottery ticket every week. But, he never won anything. He also got into a car accident while working as a delivery boy. He injured his shoulder, however, he didn’t tell the agency for fear of being kicked out. This incident is the inspiration behind some lyrics in Suga’s song “The Last.”

Jimin and J-Hope were also on the verge of being kicked out back then. J-Hope had already decided to leave. But, Rap Mon convinced the agency that they needed him. It was J-Hope’s own decision to come back for the guys. If anyone of them chose the other choices, the world wouldn’t have BTS as they are now.

5. BTS Shares Their Dreams

Now that BTS is standing on top of their dreams, they are determined to repay their fans with the best that they can do. As Jimin said, “They [the fans] don’t ask for anything back. They support us purely. That makes me feel that I have to work harder. I also want to repay them.”

Each BTS concert is a thrilling experience for V. For him, the most thrilling part is when he makes eye contact with the fans. It’s madness in the concert, as Rap Mon described it. But, Rap Mon prefers this than any kind of concert. As long as their fans are happy, then they are happy too. They get to share the energy and the passion they have for their music with the fans. And, it’s not just joy that they want to share.

“Maybe joy? We want to go beyond that. We want to listen to their stories. We want to look into their eyes and see what kind of lives they lead, and become part of the lives of those that love us so that we can be of big help to them.“, Rap Mon said.
