The voting period for the Billboard Music Awards has officially begun. South Korean boy group BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, takes over the Twitterverse for tweet votes as #BTSBBMAs becomes number one on the worldwide trends. The Kpop group’s record leaves Justin Bieber and all other Top Social Artist nominees such as Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes behind.
While people from across the globe are probably asking who the BTS are, the K-pop group’s fans are still tweeting hard to secure the Top Social Artist award. The group debuted in 2013 with the song “No More Dream” and everything went uphill from tere. In 2017, BTS ranked fifth on the list of Korea’s most powerful and influential celebrities, the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list.
Billboard Music Awards newbie BTS tops Twitter on fan voting day 1
BTS’ “army” really wants to make their Kpop idols win the Top Social Artist award for the upcoming Billboard Music Awards. The hashtag #BTSBBMAs, which is used to vote for BTS, dominated Twitter’s trending list worldwide. This leaves Justin Bieber land on the second spot with fewer tweet votes so far.
The group’s over 8 million retweets also put other Top Social Artist nominees like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Shawn Mendes to the back row.
BTS is the first K-pop group who got nominated for the Billboard Music Awards. To vote for them, you can go to Billboard’s official website here or use the hashtag #BTSBBMAs on Twitter.
The Billboard Music Awards will happen on May 21 via ABC.
