Cafe de Arko officially opened in the morning of October 17 at Museo Kordilyera in the University of the Philippines Baguio Campus. The Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Baguio, Mr. Raymundo Rovillo, as well as other significant personalities in the UP community were also present in the momentous opening. A time of prayer and dedication was first done to affirm the cafe’s significance in the locale. Participants from the two-day workshop hosted by UP Baguio that was organized by the Philippine PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Essayists, and Novelists) Civil Society also took part in welcoming Café de Arko that day.
Coffee at Café De Arko is Insightful with Art, History, Culture, and Literature
As a café located right beside the UP Baguio Ethnographic Museum and the UP Baguio Bookstore, anyone who has the love for the academe, arts, culture, and literature may consider this their third place to study, to think, or to share a conversation with colleagues and friends. Of course, the moment shared will be best enjoyed with a cup of freshly brewed coffee from the Cordilleras. Café de Arko serves delicious baked pastries, native rice cakes, sandwiches, pasta and other Pinoy café delicacies.
Everyone knows that coffee and books are a perfect combination. So, it would be second nature to visit the UP Baguio Bookstore and check out its collection of significant literature by the Philippines’s very own free thinkers. If you find a book you like, you can easily purchase it and already read it with a hot cup of brewed coffee. Ideas will surely begin to percolate quite easily. The Library is easily located just beside Cafe de Arco, within the museum itself.
Museo Kordilyera is also an important place the public should visit for a deeper understanding and appreciation the culture of the Cordilleras. The museum is open every Tuesdays all the way thru Sundays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. As to entrance fees, a meager amount of Php30 will be collected from non-UP students with a valid ID. For adults, the entrance fee is Php 60. For Senior citizens and PW with valid ID, a discount of 20% will be applied. UP students, faculty and administration staff enter for free.
