Tawag Ng Tanghalan Kids March 16 Performers, Half-German Half-Filipino Sings Wency Cornejo Hit
Half-German half-Filipino Mikhaela Sevillana from Makati was first to take the stage. This budding songbird is just 11 years old. Sadly, Mikhaela hasn’t met her father and her mother already has another family. She is under the care of the cousin of her mother, Tita Cherry, and her cousins.
Aside from joining singing competitions, Mikhaela joins beauty contests as well. Last year, she won as “lakambini” of her school. This Emma Watson look-alike gave a very sweet rendition of the song “Hanggang” by Wency Cornejo. The judges seemed to enjoy Mikhaela’s performance like Ogie who became all giddy and happy after her performance.
Judge Kyla described her voice as silky smooth and called her a total performer. She had the voice and the looks. Her voice was a “complete” meal saying her last note was the “dessert.” Billy, on the other hand, said he had goosebumps all over because of performance and called her a natural performer.
Niel Austin Tamayo Sounds off powerful voice
Niel Austin Tamayo from Sta Barbara Pangasinan was the next on stage. He loves singing and was inspired by his older sister, Sandra. They both join singing competitions but it would always be Sandra who would win. His father rents out Videoke in the community. He says this also helps in training Niel and Sandra in singing.
Niel joins Tawag Ng Tanghalan for his sister and said if he wins, it would be for the both of them. Niel’s first note singing “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal” was very powerful and he was able to maintain it up until the very end.
Judge Ogie Alcasid said Niel had an “inner ear” and noticed powerful his voice was. Ogie commended him on such a great performance.
Kiann Gee Roxas Sings Jessie J hit
Contender from Roxas City, Capiz Kiann Gee Roxas was the last contender of the day. Kiann’s parents discovered she could sing when she was just four years old. Since then she would join singing contests in school and their barangay. This 11-year-old sang “Flashlight” by Jessi J singing for her parents hoping to win and help the family in building her house.
Song choice and energy level were great says Judge Karylle. She advised Kiann to not let that energy level keep her away from the most important thing which was the execution of her notes. Karylle called her a fighter and judge Yeng saw how she had a fighting spirit as well.
