A Carless Day resolution has been approved by the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) Airshed Governing Board. This will be implemented any day in the month of November in celebration of Clean Air Month. Meanwhile, the Baguio Water District shares it is open to adopting a mobile payment scheme.

The City of Pines seems to be improving the past few months in terms of being environmentally friendly and being up to date when it comes to technology. It passed a plastic and styrofoam free ordinance in May, free public wifi set up in key areas which was reported in August, and news about a bit of clean up in the city’s night market.

Carless Day in Baguio in November, Online payment for BWD

Baguio’s public information officer, Gaby Keith, has written an article published in The Manila Times that says the BLISTT Airshed board has indeed approved the Carless Day resolution. This is to take part in the celebration of Clean Air Month in November.

According to the article, the Environmental Management Bureau regional director of the Cordillera Administrative Region Reynaldo Digamo said, that the BLISTT board would just have to convince the local officials to approve its implementation for it to push through.

The board hopes that this move would reduce pollutants with the help of the local entities. The Baguio City council is evaluating this proposal. If the Carless Day would be implemented, Session Road would be empty of cars once a week.

Meanwhile, the Baguio Water District (BWD), shares its intention to do a mobile payment scheme when it comes to clients paying monthly dues. In a SunStar report, BWD General manager Salvador Royeca says this is to answer the demand from customers who want convenience through using new technologies in their transactions.

Royeca said, “The Baguio Water District will be adopting that mobile payment kind of scheme, we have our website, we need to have some sort of information education campaign of course and then actually we also conduct orientation to our customers so we inform the customers of these evolutions taking place.” He added how a lot of their customers are asking for this kind of scheme. Royeca also said BWD aims for paperless transactions.
