Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental have suffered from massive floods due to continuous heavy rains since Monday afternoon. This left many stranded and caused hundreds of families to seek shelter in evacuation areas. Netizens on Twitter have since then been posting photos of the CDO flood real time. Some photo sharers are asking for prayers, while some others are merely showing how bad it was, not realizing they were already delivering news of firsthand accounts. CDO Flooding, Families Evacuated, No Casualties City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) weather monitoring chief, Vergel Lago said that a low pressure area and the tail end of the cold front caused the heavy rains that started at 2 p.m. Cagayan de Oro local officials declared the city under a state of calamity after an emergency meeting at 1 a.m. on Tuesday. The declaration was made in order to provide more relief and assistance to those affected by the flooding. The report says authorities implemented a forced evacuation most especially for those living near riverbanks. Report further says there were more than 5,000 individuals evacuated, 221 of those were families who were from around the Ipunan River. No casualties were reported. A red rainfall warning is now raised over northern Mindanao and Zamboanga. Red rainfall warning means possible serious flooding in areas affected. While a yellow rainfall warning was raised for Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Surigao del Sur, Suriao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. This is according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). PAGASA Weather Forecast , January 17 as of 5 am On Facebook, PAGASA has released its weather forecast for the next 24 hours. The report says there are two weather systems that are affecting Visayas and Mindanao. One of them is the tail end of the cold front and the other is the Low Pressure Area (LPA) located at 70 km Northeast of Zamboanga del Sur. Rains will be experienced over East Visayas, Caraga Region, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga peninsula and Bohol. Luzon, Bicol, Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Aurora and Quezon will have cloudy skies and rain showers because of the Northeast monsoon.
