ABS-CBN news anchor and veteran broadcast journalist Ces Oreña-Drilon and Kapamilya star John Lloyd Cruz received the “People of the Year” 2016 awards from People Asia Magazine. The awards recognize both Drilon’s and Cruz’ achievements in their respective fields. They joined several other awardees from business, showbiz and other sectors.

John Lloyd Cruz: Roles In Award-Winning Films

John Lloyd Cruz, according to an ABS-CBN report, was recognized for his recent roles in award-winning films. These include “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” and “Ang Babaeng Humayo,” both films of Lav Diaz. “Hele” won the Alfred Bauer prize at the Berlin International Film Festival. “Ang Babaeng Humayo” on the other hand, got the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival.

In both films, John Lloyd played a lead character, showcasing his versatile skills as an actor. Aside from the Lav Diaz films, he also won Best Actor in Gawad Urian 2016 and the Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival for his role in “Honor Thy Father.”

Ces Oreña-Drilon: 30 Years In Broadcast Journalism

Ces Oreña-Drilon won the award for her work as a broadcast journalist. While currently co-anchoring “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, she is better known for her earlier work as a field reporter for ABS-CBN. In June 2008, Drilon survived a kidnapping by the Abu Sayyaf. People Asia cited her courage in covering stories in “the most dangerous places in the country.”

Described as a “legend in her own right,” People Asia also called her the “new voice of truth and reason in the Internet’s sea of misinformation.” Aside from People of the Year, she also received the Volvo Ironmark Award, for her extraordinary strength in the midst of challenges and being a leader in innovation in her field.
