It hasn’t been three months since the breakup of Charice Pempengco with partner of four years, Alyssa Quijano was confirmed. After nearing two months of silence from the vocal artist, her fans have left her to heal. Then out of nowhere, she emerges in social media with a new name: Jake Zyrus. The sudden transformation caught wind from the fans, and immediately, reactions from netizens started bursting.

On June 15, Charice erased the photos of her– or should we say, his Instagram account formerly labeled as ‘supercharice.’ He then renames his account as “jakezyrusmusic” and uploads a simple photo that read “Thank You.” On his caption, he sends out peace and love; and then a warm thank you.

Five days later on June 20, the hit-singer changes his twitter handle as “Jake Zyrus” and tweets as his new self for the first time. All his other social media accounts have also turned into Jake Zyrus.

Evidently, the former internet sensation has had it rough, and are taking steps to make amends. Meanwhile, netizens are talking:

For calling himself as Jake Zyrus, fans stand divided– some in favor, some a little reluctant to accept. It has been four years since Charice revealed that he was lesbian. And now, he’s reinforced his identity with a new name.

Supportive fans have applauded his decision, respecting this ‘rebirth.’ The star has also received praise for his ‘self-actualization’ and bravery. Other than that, love, respect and pure happiness for Jake’s becoming have been sent to the former ‘Most Talented Girl in the World.’ Netizens are proud of him for following his own tide and being immersed in the person he chooses to be. Meanwhile, some fans are insulted by people who think otherwise.

On the opposite side of the table, some fans don’t know what to say or how to feel about the new Jake Zyrus. It’s as if they’re in a stage of shock, eyes blinking rapidly, and hands pressed on their chest to calm their rapidly beating heart. There are a few who prefer his old self than this new persona. One fan even said that she’s become ‘misguided’ and has been driving herself to ‘rock bottom.’

Meanwhile, another fan thinks it’s a publicity stunt to gain a little ‘noise.’ To which, another speculating fan states won’t get the comeback Charice has worked hard to achieve.
