One of the best things about this is that we get to plan what we want to do during the long Christmas break. After months of toil, everyone will actually get some time for themselves. Ergo? More me-time means more movie marathon time. To get into the Christmas feels in a whim, these underrated and overlooked Holiday flicks will definitely bring about some holiday cheer with mugs and mugs of hot cocoa. Not to mention, film critiquing moments with friends and family. Let’s begin, shall we? Nothing Beats The Classics With ‘The Shop Around The Corner’ (1940) James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan in ‘The Shop Around the Corner’ 1940 (Wikipedia) Unknown to many, this film actually inspired “You’ve Got Mail” that stars Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks who fall in love with each other through email. Similarly, its 1940’s inspiration tells the story of shop clerks James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan who get romantic through a pen pal relationship. Of course, any bibliophile knows that literature and love is a perfect match. It is this kind of charming romance that anyone needs to get swept off their feet whether one is single or not. Meet Christmas’ Dark Side: ‘Black Christmas’ (1974) Oh, the irony. Christmas really does come after the Halloween season and Black Christmas is the perfect film for anyone who needs to feel that transition. The 1974 movie is about a sorority house slasher unleashing mayhem among occupants. About 30 years after its release, a 2006 movie version came directed by Glen Morgan. Get ‘Scrooged’ (1988) by A Charles Dickens Twist Bill Murray gets “Scrooged”/Wikipedia Scrooged is a comedy film that modernized Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.” It stars Bill Murray who plays the cynical TV executive Frank Cross. In the film, the Ghost of Christmas Past is a taxi driver while the Ghost of Christmas Present is actually a cute and volatile pixie. Towards the end, Frank meets the Ghost of Christmas Future in an elevator. Despite its contemporary version, the message is one and the same – Christmas is a time to think about life in terms of the past, present and future. This is not to be neglected. ‘Prancer’ (1989) Is Santa’s Wounded Reindeer Theatrical Poster of ‘Prancer’/ Wikimedia This one is for those who are into the world of magic and fantasy. Basically, it is for the child in everyone. Prancer is about an 8-year-old girl who nurses a wounded reindeer who happens to be Santa’s very own. It is as heartwarming as chestnuts over the fire because this young girl sparks up that special spirit of hope in her father and in her home. ‘All I Want For Christmas’ Is Family This 1991 film is about two siblings who want a special Christmas gift. They want nothing else than having their parents get back together. Ethan and Hallie O’Fallon find themselves in a hilarious scheme that involves mice, telephone calls, and an ice cream truck. Of course, with a little help from Santa Clause, they succeed.
